If I recall correctly, during Bond’s recruitment, one of Coach Bennett’s pitches to Bond was that he could be an ALL ACC defensive player, or even DPOY. With Dunn on the floor, I imagine that there wasn’t much PT for another defensive stopper with limited scoring range. That said, like you, I really liked Bond and I wish he had stayed. Despite limited minutes, he always seemed positive and enthusiastic during games.

He didn’t say he can shoot the piss out of the ball did he?

Yep … I loved Woldy … said a lot he should have been a starter his senior year too.
One of my fave games ever to be at live…. I was 20 rows up from the UVA bench for that game with a birds eye view of that shot in the corner. Drove together with a Tar Heel fan to the game. The ride home was very quiet.
:rofl::rofl::rofl::joy:

You must have been the driver, else you would’ve been walking home.

Nice! We were there too, behind the basket but closest to the UVA bench. Probably about 20 rows up as well. Got to chat with Tomas after the game. It was a great time!

Actually he drove … he drove and paid for parking and I paid for the tickets… our usual deal.

Man when did Katz fall off so hard

He put fuckin CALEB LOVE on there, a career 32% 3 point shooter.

Katz has been on the clickbait list bandwagon for a while now.

McKneely was right below the threshold of 3 pointers made per game (2.5) to be included in the best 3pt % last year.

I think that’s basically why he’s not getting enough credit from national pundits

See the note at the bottom:

Yeah that might be it. Which is silly, because he took more 3s per 100 possessions than multiple players on this list (Johnell Davis, Mark Sears, Matthew Murrell, Nijel Pack, Zeke Mayo, Wooga).

Caleb Love is an unhinged inclusion, but Nijel Pack is pretty suspect as well. He was bad for a bad team last season, why is he getting included?

Yeah, the list is basically “guys you’ve heard of” (hence Pack, Love, Sears) and unfortunately IMac doesn’t qualify for that, and “guys that Katz put on the list by looking at last year’s stats”, and I think the 2.5 cutoff explains why he’s not on that list

As a slight tangent, one of the funnier bits in college hoops podcasts was when Titus and Tate would have Katz on to explain his tiers.

Katz would sometimes have interesting takes, but mostly it was just fun to listen to Titus and Tate point out how silly it all was.

But here’s the thing:

  • people
  • Love
  • Lists
  • See?

What’s our best defensive lineup?

Something like: Warley, iMac, Rohde (?), Saunders, Blake. Who am I missing?

I can see some combos of offensive talent that should be solidly top 100, and even better optimistically… but I’m not sure I see a top 20 defense with these parts. I feel a little better next year with Cofie and ARob with a year of experience and Elijah (hopefully) back

Here are our post natty splits

Maybe best-ish case is a similar sort of rebalancing as what happened between 2011-12 and 2012-13? Lost the do-everything player (then Mike Scott, now Reece) but offense got better because we got some big steps forward from returners and a lift from newcomers. Defense took a step back but it was just a one-year step as almost everyone came back the next year.

Oh and Eli is Brogs in this analogy.
