Anyone know when the team’s media day is?

Yes

Smart ass answers like that were funny in third grade.

I just read the ACC tipoff (media day) is Oct 8-10. Not sure when UVa’s one is, but kinda moot without any media.

What should we set an over/under at? Like 92.5? If he can get to 95+ I would be very happy.

I think o/u is 99.5 b/c if he’s not at or approaching 100 then we have other choices this year so he’ll be on the outskirts of the rotation. To be fair, I also thought this last year.

Agree. 100+ is what you want from a main rotation guy to be happy. Maybe you make some allowances for a back-end defensive/rebounding specialist, but from a perimeter player you need to be north of 100 to deserve major minutes in the ACC.

If he hits 95 and he’s like the 9th guy in the rotation, maybe that’s okay, assuming all the guys ahead of him are doing better. 95 is probably fine for a spot-minutes guy.

My answer is usage-contingent:

  • Low usage (<18): above 105
  • Moderate usage (18-23): 100
  • High usage (>23): 95

I’m defining the usage categories off the top of my head, so those might need to be wider and set at slightly different levels.

My first thought was o/u 97.5 with AdventiveQuasar’s important caveat about usage.

But then I looked up all the guards with a 95-99.9 or 90-94.9 ORtg since 2014.

I’ve listed the season, player, his year, his ORtg, and his usage.

This would be the 97.5 group:

21-22 Franklin JR 97.6, 23
21-22 Kihei SR 99.6, 18
20-21 Beekman FR 99.6, 14
17-18 Nigel Johnson SR 95.3, 21
16-17 Shayok JR 99.1, 26
15-16 Hall SO 99.9, 15

This would be the 92.5 group:

21-22 Stattmann SR 92.2, 15
20-21 Morsell SO 90.0, 20
19-20 Kihei SO 94.1, 24
19-20 Woldo JR 94.1, 15

Honestly looking at those lists I think tonyburnett’s 92.5 is the right line. I agree with Haney and StLouHoo that if he is at 92.5, he should be out of the rotation and the fifth guard should be Bliss or Sharma behind IMAC, Warley, Dai Dai, and Taine.

Gotta love UVA fans man hahaha. Practice started last week and we’re projecting offensive ratings with caveats for Andrew Rohde. Never change!

My takeaway looking at the years of these: more people have bad offensive ratings when they are on bad offensive teams.

I get that it’s a chicken and egg thing, but individual offensive rating alone is pretty limited in what it tells you about a player.

I’m concerned about the minutes he’ll see if he gets above 90 tbh

Hoops roster has finally been updated with heights/weights for the 24-25 season.

Blake 227 pounds
Saunders 240 pounds
Robinson 250 pounds
Cofie 232 pounds (solid)
Power 221 pounds
Lang 238 pounds

We’re definitely a lot bigger than the last few seasons.

Also of note, IMac up a few to 195 and Rohde down a few from 202 to 200, which will probably help him. Sharma at 6-5, 192.

Really hope Saunders can be physical. I feel like he’s been portrayed that way but I’ve only seen clips of him on the perimeter from SDSU. That’s all offense of course so no clue if he was a bruiser on defense

Power having 10 lbs on Groves last year is good.

I really hope Blake has gained more than 2 pounds since last year’s official roster weight. Good to see Robinson add 12 pounds though, that’s a big dude. Also nice to see Dai Dai at 6’1, 190, should help finish in the lane.

Blake is pretty light for 6-9 dude.

He’s listed as two inches taller than Power and only has 6 lbs on him. Yikes.

I’m telling you, the neck girth is deceiving. He’s not that big of a dude.

Check out the Cuts piece on him. He’s physical defensively and is a strong rebounder. Lots of good examples in there

Will do, good call
