For a sec I was fr thinking that going from Miami to Syracuse means we flew the length of the ACC… and then I remembered about California
I know this is a thing that fans always say, but this team is so much better than their record. We’re 2-6 in close games (including 5-point losses to ranked Duke & NC State), and the awful 4-game losing streak in Nov/Dec would not have happened without the illnesses/injuries to Noyan, Clark, and Lattimore.
We’re 11-11 (3-7) but ought to be something more like 15-7 (4-6) and 10th in the ACC, which is NCAAT bubble territory.
Anyway, what could have been. But we better start winning these and get to WBIT territory or this season will be an even bigger What Could Have Been.
A little shuffle from the last starting lineup (Hurd back in, Lattimore in):
Not totally clear if Hurd or McGhee is the better 3rd perimeter option. I think the rest of the lineup is probably what’d I’d pick, though I think Mo and Lattimore might be my only complete no-brainer starters. Clark might be a no-brainer mostly because of lack of better guard options.
Tie-up on the initial jump ball! Never seen that before.
Add it to the list @ElliottHoo
O is easily the second best outside shooter on the team, and might be the best all-around athlete, but she’s a surprisingly poor rebounder and she probably attempts more contested 17-footers than the rest of the team combined.
Hurd’s a true freshman and probably isn’t together enough to start yet, but she’s dawg. O should be 6th man.
Has Syracuse missed a shot yet?
Answer: They’re 9 of 12. But seems like they’re hitting everything.
Up and down the court, lots of offense, meh defense, great shooting… that’s Virginia basketball.
Tie game, 6:48 to go.
We’re up 1 with just under 3 minutes. (Outscored them 2-1 over the past 4 minutes lol)
Up 3, with possession, 40.6 to go. (Mox just called timeout a second before Paris hit a 3 smh)
HOOS WIN!
Down 14 in second half, battled back (largely behind Lattimore’s offense and suffocating team defense), finally closed out a close game and win 70-67.
It was a little clown shoes on the last defensive possession and then the very last possession; how did we give up a wide-ass open 3 out of like nothing action? And then we successfully ran out the clock by turning it over haha. Wins a win though.
Syracuse definitely helped us out by missing like their last 10 three-point attempts.
So weird that our two programs don’t know how to happy medium possessions. One is like whatever we don’t care and the other one is like we care so much that we have to protect the ball at all cost even if it turns into a highly contested 27 footer that has no chance.
From Torvik
Nice.
Big opportunity on the home court tonight
10 point dogs on T-Rank. This should be a very fast paced game, FSU #4 in adjusted tempo (though we’ve tapped the brakes a bunch in conference play).
tryna get our scoring drought out of the way early
smart
26-9 FSU after 1 quarter. Our defense is a sieve
