🏀 2024 Women's Basketball Season

By her. Every other lattimore on the planet pronounces it correctly.

Why does the women’s season end a week earlier than the men, but their NCAAT starts at the same time? Creates this dead week before the postseason. Teams are going to play their first-round NCAAT game without having played a game in nearly 2 weeks.

I would think TV and arena competition.

Would be a good argument for not aligning the NCAA tourneys in that case. Which I’m pretty sure was the case not too many years ago?

Fewer teams in NCAA vs all of the conferences tournament teams

Because their tournament could never compete with the men’s conference tournament week.

It can’t compete with the men’s NCAAT either.

The closest we’re gonna get to a Virginia basketball team participating in Selection Sunday (fingers crossed):

Bracket announced at 9pm

Did the men already say they were not participating in any postseason or is that just assumed because of the Sanchez announcement?

Well we literally have no coaches so

I’ve heard through the grapevine the women are also gonna pass on the postseason. Although I think Mox would probably prefer to play.

Huh. I thought they’d want to play. Maybe too many injuries?

Yeah I’m thinking Lattimore might be concussed which could’ve tipped it

If they decline, Mox’s first three years will be:

1 WBIT
2 declined postseason due to injuries

We need some depth!

Yeah that feels like it doesn’t really cut it?

But god she took over such a dumpster fire.

There’s been an upward trajectory that you can see on the court but hasn’t shown up much in W-L (due both to injuries and the “big step” required to get over the hump and compete against the top half of the ACC). If we don’t make the NCAAT next year, I’ll be concerned, but odds are good we will.

Are we completely sure Coach Mox is safe for next year? I don’t keep up with the women’s program near as much as I probably should.

Yes

It seems you’re right. Virginia is not in the WBIT, but Boston College is. We would have been invited before BC (losing record, two games behind us in the ACC standings), so we must have declined.

Has there been any statement about UVA declining a postseason invite? Two years ago when we declined, they released an official statement on the Tuesday after Selection Sunday. I can’t find any comment about anything this year.
