To put into dollars what means
We did a fake FG with Jay Woolfolk once because he wore the same number as the holder.
If we were deciding between Morris and Preston Stone at any point, after 1 game it looks like we made the right choice.
We can just hire Jeff Monken. Thatās an option available to us (and it was 4 years ago too). Itās that easy tbh.
Arch after seeing this: āCoach, just tell them I hurt my arm next timeā

Petrino (lol) gets the interim Arkansas job (after being OC for a couple of seasons) and immediately gets the knives out for his fellow assistants: Sources: Bobby Petrino overhauls Arkansas staff, fires assistants - ESPN
Rhett Lashlee should turn them down now so that they can fully buy in to the Petrino era already.
How would you rank the already open P4 jobs: Stanford, VT, UCLA, Oklahoma State, Arkansas.
Stanfordās clearly the least desirable, but the other 4 is a debate between a lower tier job in a P2 league vs a mid to upper tier job in a lower P4 conference.
You probably (maybe?) have more resources at Arkansas/UCLA than VT/OSU, but your competitors have more money than you and thereās no realistic path to the playoff (maybe Indiana proves me wrong on this point) whereas in the ACC/Big XII, almost any team could hit the fortune trifecta of favorable schedule, good roster/injury luck and other teams being down in any given year (SMU/ASU last season).
Helluva a question. I feel like UCLA, OSU and to a lesser extent Ark are a bit of fools gold.
UCLA is not positioned to truly compete in the Big 10. In theory there are resources available, but Iām fairly confident they are not on the level of the powers that are in the Big 10.
Arkansas is in a no mans land. Stuck on an island in the SEC, limited natural resources. An active fanbase but again not sure how large those checks are being cut. Maybe someone who can cozy up to Jerry Jones can open the spending. Because to win there you have to talk talent into leaving Texas and Louisiana for the fertile grounds of Arkansas.
Stanford is a niche job. Great for the right person who can come in and bein quirky and be given time.
VT is a smaller scale version of the fools gold that UCLA has. I do think it could work out there but I question the stomach of the donors to pump enough money in and keep it flowing long enough to get them back to where they think they belong.
All that said I think Iām talking myself into Oklahoma State. Lost in no mans land of NE Oklahoma and long gone is the T-Boone money but thereās still money in the program. Itās also had the most recent success of all those programs they wont the Big 12 in 22 or 23. Gundy had it rolling there, he just failed to adapt to the modern landscape. The Big 12 is a soft conference with no true bully you need to beat down.
Arkansas is a classic āthatās what the money is forā job. Theyāll pay a lot to get a guy in there that they can sell to fans a little bit, and the resources are there if the cap is fake. The issue is that baseball and basketball are really tapped into them, and you canāt exactly rug pull Cal on the resources you gave him to come to Fayetteville. If the athletic department gets aligned with the right NCAA regulatory environment though, you can absolutely win big in Arkansas. Lots of money and deceptively fertile recruiting ground in neighboring states (that just comes with a lot of competition).
UCLA is an absolute dog of a job, not enough money in the world for me IMO. OSU is a place you can win at, but it wonāt be easy. Their athletic department is run fairly sharply though, so I would expect good alignment for the guy who gets the job.
VT might be in a tough spot realignment wise, and weāll find out tomorrow how real the money is going to be for the next guy, but I think it is a better job than all of these except for Arkansas if its real.
Continuing the discussion from
ACC Football: Week 5 - 2025:
The only chance is probably 11/8 vs Wake and maybe only if they want to make an effort to visit every school they havenāt been to.
Other games of note that Saturday are:
TAMU @ Mizzou
Indiana @ PSU
LSU @ Bama
BYU @ Texas Tech
Auburn @ Vandy
FSU @ Clemson
Georgia @ Mississippi State
Navy @ ND
Love the take on Arkansas. I do think someone can be successful there but it comes with a ceiling. If someone can crack the regional recruiting issue they itās a great position to be in, but I havenāt seen anyone be able to do that on a sustained level yet. Perhaps the right person with the right donors can buy their way to success but I wouldnāt want a job where my success is measured on out performing OU/TX/Bama/LSU on a yearly basis. And now you have A&M and potentially Okie St and Mizzu jumping into the waters as well poaching the guys who would typically be available. I also totally forgot about the fact that Cal is sucking millions of dollars out of the air for the basketball program as well.
Like I said, I think Okie State has the best bones to work with. They have recent history as you said theyāre a smart athletic department. They have money and resources and some pedigree. If it wasnāt for a whackjob at coach they probably are still in the mix in the Big 12.
I see no upside to UCLA other than you get to live in LA which is pretty sweet. Hang out along the Marina could be worst places to make $3mil and get fired.
Hoos would need to absolutely be on a streak going into that and likely need some help from Wake.
Maybe I put in a word to the folks at Gameday and letāem know Dragonās gonna be on the ground for that one and can show them how a guest picker is supposed to work.
Yeah I donāt think the problem is our team, its the opponents. We legitimately may not play anyone with a winning record the rest of the season after Louisville.
