Itās going to come down to how effective the staff is in working the portal (again) and keeping talent already on board. The HS recruiting just isnāt adequate, not by a long shot. But, that being said, if you can win the portal then you can mitigate the deficiencies in recruiting. Being an old recruiting nut, I have not been able to shift my mindset to where I see the portal as the permanent fix to consistently falling flat in HS recruiting, but if UVA wins 9 games next season that would be pretty substantial proof that Iām wrong.
Iām still stuck in the idea that HS recruiting is your foundation and the portal is to fill gaps. Maybe thatās just outdated thinking.

Lewis is strange, he was a state champion track runner in HS known for his big play ability but that kind of speed hasnāt really translated to the college level yet. Wasnāt really much of a homerun hitter at Tennessee, more of a physical short yardage back.
Would still be a nice add and someone with very high potential, but I think there would be room to add another speedy RB if we find the right fit.

Saw Lewis run all over Louisa in the playoffs. My nephew played for Louisa and said he was the fastest kid he ever chased. Iāve watched Savion Hiter play sports since he was 6. He and my youngest played for Louisa Elite from 6u through school ball. Lewis is faster, Savion is more instinctual. Lewis would be a great get.

Lewis would be a very good get. Kid played right away on a SEC CFP team. Would probably prefer Hollywood Smothers but idk where we stand there. Either way we should be adding 2 RBs.

Good thing about Lewis is he could be an every down back. Has size and speed. TBD on what his upside is but put him behind a good OL and heās gonna run for 700+.

Potentially hot take, Smothers is really good but not worth what I would assume is a very high asking price. Would rather we go after Lewis and then poach a proven FCS or G5 back, save the high dollar amount for a premier pass rusher or a really good interior lineman.

Ugh. Really warmed to the idea of continuity. Thatās funny Davis and Speris seemed so optimistic the other day. Well, at least we know and can ramp up their efforts.

I donāt get the sense this is over *yet, but nearly all non-nuclear options have been exhausted. Love the guy but at the same time, Iām not sure having a 25 year old QB should be something that becomes commonplace in college football.
