Also, I guess this fits here as well as anywhere else, but there have been WAY more upsets in the better bowl games than I expected and UVA could end up with a surprisingly good final AP ranking.
Obviously, we went into the bowl season ranked 20th after the loss in the ACCCG and we went on to beat then #25 Missouri 13-7 in the Gator Bowl (if this whole post was just me typing that like 1000 times Iād be ok with it, but Iād like it to be readable to everyone else so Iāll refrain).
Now, looking at the other results:
#19 - JMU - beaten/crushed by #5 Oregon in CFP Octantfinals - UVA probably passes them
#18 - Michigan - beaten by #14 Texas in Citrus Bowl - UVA probably (but not 100%) passes them
#17 - Tulane - boat-raced by #6 Ole Miss in CFP Octantfinals - UVA probably passes them
#16 - USC - loses in OT to unranked TCU in Alamo Bowl - UVA probably passes them
#15 - Utah - pounds unranked Nebraska in Las Vegas Bowl (wow, thatās kind of a crummy destination for the #15 team. Its an old bowl but the payout was substantially below even like the Pinstripe Bowl) - Obviously we arenāt passing them
#14 - Texas - beat Michigan in Citrus Bowl - UVA isnāt passing them
#13 - Vandy - loses to āAP unrankedā Iowa in ReliaQuest Bowl (sounds goofy, but its a big-time bowl) - Could UVA pass Vandy? It was a close game and Iowa was #23 in the CFP rankings and #27 in the AP rankings (2nd in āothers getting votesā), so any combination of UVA passing or not passing Vandy, and Iowa catching or not catching UVA are plausible.
Everyone ahead of Vandy either won or is so far ahead that thereās no chance of UVA catching them (UVA isnāt catching Oklahoma just because Bama beat them by 10 in the CFP).
So, at a minimum, UVA should 100% pass JMU, Tulane, and USC which would put us at #17. On top of that, weāre likely (but not 100%) to pass Michigan for #16. On top on top of that, I could see us passing Vandy but also getting passed by Iowa (and passing Michigan isnāt certain), so I think anywhere between #15 (we pass both Michigan and Vandy) and #18 (we pass neither Michigan nor Vandy, and Iowa passes us) are plausible.
Finally, two potentially impactful games happen tomorrow when Navy plays Cincinnati and Arizona plays SMU. Both are just downside for us as Arizona is currently #21 and Navy is #22. Cincinnati and SMU are unranked, so Arizona and/or Navy would have to absolutely obliterate them to pass us, but its possible. Its unlikely, especially for Navy, but if Arizona beats SMU 50-0 theyāll probably catch us.
So, a final ranking anywhere between #15 and #19 is possible at this point. I personally think weāll end up ranked #16, tying the final ranking from 1995 for our 2nd best post-Korean War ranking.
Its kinda wild that no one ever talks about ā94 as a specifically great season. Sure, its lumped in with ā95 and ā98 as a stretch in which UVA was really good, buts its almost never mentioned on its own merits. Yet its the season out of that run that we finished with the best final ranking: 15th.

This paragraph is depressing and has me questioning my mental health.
Are we inevitable?
It has been 8 hours. We are doomed.
Also, apologies in advance to those of you who will see notices about this thread and there be no news only my rambling.
Most of todayās news likely to be more outbounds:
RIP to the grady bunch tush push
That one stings, right up there with Prevard.
Unless the replacement is betterā¦.
I donāt feel any type of way about a kid who started 2 games
Kam possibly coming back with young talented depth behind him. I think he saw it was going to be a lot of comp to get a starting role
Eh, he was making the jump from FCS with two established starters already here. The goal was always to use this year to adjust to the level of competition before being available to start next year in Jackson and maybe Kamās absence. He did what I wanted to see him do in making that jump ⦠He got better throughout the year.
I made this chart based off of the info I could find and the roster. Potential seasons remaining in parenthesis and guys already in the portal taken off. Guys who havenāt declared for the NFL but might still on. Iām assuming Morris doesnāt get a waiver and places where there isnāt a clear #1 guy left blank.
Scuttlebutt as of late seems to be that heās coming back,
JF saying weāre the favorite for Peyton Lewis. Would be over the moon with that commitment
Rip Grady bunch long live direct snap
