🏀 2025-26 In-Season ACC Thread

We’re 14th in Kenpom because we smacked three solid ACC teams in a row, not bc we beat up on our buy games

Had a friend at the ponies-hokies game last night who said Dorn for Tech was one of the dirtiest players he’s ever seen

They made a deal with the devil with their ref-laden, unethical win vs us. And this is the payback :joy:

They’ve also won 4 games in OT this year, one of which was a ref fest against us. And barely beat Cal at home. They love playing close games and that’s going to bite you eventually.

Yes, it’s all of the above. Blowing out bad teams and beating mediocre teams by 10-15.

Interestingly enough we’re the only team in the top 20 in kenpom that hasn’t played another top 20 kenpom team. It sucks that we’ll only play one of those this year in Duke to prove our meddle against the best.

Never ever celebrate another team losing to a team we are about to play….. These are the rules. We are in trouble now.

I mean, its both, right?

That’s a really cool point, except for the fact that it’s not true in any way, shape, or form. Louisville was 16 on KenPom when we played them two days ago.

I think we all agree that the Louisville team we played is not top 20 (or close) without Brown. According to Torvik they have been ranked 44th since Brown went out. (This was the number I had in mind when I looked).

This only matters as far as conversations about how good opponents and tests are. Doesn’t matter at all for seeding or NCAA tourney purposes. It was a massive win for that purpose (unless Brown is out for the rest of the year in which case they’ll likely slide quite a bit further).

NC State and Louisville are both top 25 and they are outside the top 20 specifically because UVA beat them at home. UVA was 39th on kenpom entering the Texas game and has jumped 25 spots primarily on the strength of beating Texas, NCState and Louisville on the road by combined 43 points.

Also how many teams have multiple road wins against top 25 kenpom teams? The list actually might just be Duke and Virginia.

Alabama has an argument for this as well, but that’s it.

Watching Duke last night, it seemed like their main offense was to throw it to Boozer 3 feet from the basket, and he’d either make it or get fouled. Hopefully, our rim protection will make it more difficult for Duke. I wish it was a home game….

On the contrary, I think Grünloh gets into immediate foul trouble against Duke. I think the same thing will happen against UNC. He’s just not strong enough right now and is still used to Euro contact.

Luckily that may make his current weaknesses more apparent and lower his draft stock. Then we get All-ACC lottery pick Grünloh next year.

Wonder if this has something to do with scheme? Like they help off less/are less likely to double? @Cuts_from_The_Corner investigation required

NC State just lost to Georgia Tech at home.

That seems almost impossible. They are going to plummet in the metrics and NET.

Feeling very good about our top 4 odds for ACC Tournament, winner of Miami/Clemson will be hard to catch as well.
