I think the lottery type guy isnāt as necessary now that you just have guys staying way longer. A good 23-year old with no NBA future is more meaningful than a raw 18 year old who will be in the league for a decade for this upcoming season.
Houston was very close and didnāt have any guys go in the first. Previously you needed a guy good enough to play in the NBA next year because anyone that was close took the leap because it was the only way to make money.
Now Braden Smith makes millions in West Lafayette instead of toiling in the G-league and is a far more impactful college basketball player than many lottery picks.
He needs to average like 9 assists/game (assuming they get into the mid 30s with games played)? Iām gonna say no, he doesnāt quite get there because he ends up bumping his scoring average up at the cost of assists.
I watched most of the game. Nova hung in there and did a good job slowing the pace of the game down. Guards hit some tough shots. They even had the lead briefly late in the 2nd half.
BYU was the better team. I do see Nova as a team that is going to grind out a few quality wins against the top of the Big East but probably subject to some bad losses when their guards are off. They looked like a good bubble team.
Starting to think that long-time HC retiring suddenly before the season starts (or early into the season, looking at you Jim L.) is a negative signal of the teamās quality. If Auburn was a lock top-10 team, would Bruce Pearl have retired?
