I mean c’mon

For those interested in the only true measure of Ryan Odom as a head coach, that is how his record at VCU matches up against other VCU coaches, Martelli’s VCU team is more or less on the exact same spot on the bubble as Odom’s team last year.

For anyone who wanted proof that Miami OH tried to get better games, Matt Brown FOIA’d some emails and has receipts. Some info in the free site. More if you decide to be a decent human being and pay a person for their labor (unfortunately, I’m not a decent human being wrt Matt Brown, sorry Matt)

And for anyone interested in my Dusty May take, please see the three large photos I posted above.

My bad

I was just making fun of myself. You’re good.

I also only read the free part. The funniest part is that the Miami OH AD is just shooting off emails to other ADs basically being like ā€œYour school has an open date and so do we. Wanna play?ā€

It makes sense that would be the way to try to set something up, but it’s just funny to see how the sausage gets made. Or in Miami’s case, how the sausage doesn’t get made. Screen shot below.

The lesson here? Don’t send work emails after 5pm. 5-6 if absolutely necessary.

I saw this and genuinely wondered if maybe the AD is really bad at doing this outreach and that is part of why they didn’t land the games.

It does beg the question of how the outreach typically happens (and I have no idea what the answer is)

And fwiw, Jonathan Holmes is their associate HC. He’s the one who the hoops dorks think helped turn their offense around. UNC grad.

Seems like this should be DOBO (dir of basketball ops) work, but I guess Miami (OH) doesn’t have one on staff. In the email to the Pitt DOBO he says ā€œSaw your post about needing a guarantee game on Dec 7thā€ so there must be some sort of listserv for these scheduling requests. That makes me think this is pretty normal.

The Pittsburgh one references a post. Is there some sort of AD message board/craigslist type thing for this?? It would honestly make a lot of sense if there was.

I would like access to it very badly.

It is. I remember Odom mentioning that Kelsey Knoche got the Ohio State game scheduled.

ā€œHi All - we have an opening on 01/20 that we’re looking to fill with an absolutely dogshit team that we can wreck by 45+ to up our advance metrics on the margins. Nobody will watch and nobody will attend. Any takers?ā€

Also the ā€œPitt hosted Hofstra (and lost)ā€ in that write-up is *chef’s kiss*.

Yes there were some posts like this I saw floating around twitter yesterday. They often literally say NET 250+ only

Blocking my calendar so I can half watch Belmont-Drake even though I have watched zero minutes of either of these teams all year.

I remember reading an article about a really small school team where scheduling was the job of one of the assistants (I’m presuming they had no DOBO) and part of his assignment was a minimum of 1.5 mil in guarantees (if I remember correctly).

For anyone with a spare monitor it’s been a super fun game so far. Teams shooting a combined 47% from three on 34 attempts, Drake holding their own

Is it too early to fire up a coaching carousel thread?

Probably wise for Schertz to hold out for better
