LOL. I am not insecure. As I just said, he had an opportunity and chose to go the other way. Typical.
As youād expect about the team that won and is now moving on to the sweet 16.
Others have addressed the second part.
Fink noted : 12 missed layups
Sam V: jaw was on the floor when Jacari airmailed that 3 (me too)
Fink actually had the statement I might quibble with even tho it could be viewed as complimentary: he said we lost it (missed opportunities down the stretch), rather than Tennessee won it. I see what heās saying, but Iād put it more that we couldnāt finish the comeback
12 missed ālayupsā seems like an unfair stat. I donāt recall a bunch of easy missed layups. I recall heavily contested shots around the rim. If anything we shouldāve gone to the line more
Us attempting layups did feel a bit unfair, I guess
Yeah, I think thereās difference between missing a layup (you had an open shot and blew it) and being unable to finish at the rim in traffic. Which, by the way, we struggled with all year.
okay
Both are meaningful and interesting for different reasons. But I also think the category as a whole is helpful because it generally tells us what we knew from watching: we had trouble scoring in the paint.
Iāll make any assumption I please thank you very much!!

Didnāt feel like we missed any more layups than we usually do. Malik and TDR usually good for a few out of control attempts a piece. Dallin usually one or two that hits the underside of the rim, bigs with a bad put back or two and Chance usually with one out of control.
All in all, probably not as out of character as I thought. Hereās the box score.
We didnāt do a great job drawing fouls going to the hoop. And didnāt shoot that well at the line when we got there. Offense wasnāt great, but not terrible eitherā¦
3 point % basically right in line with the season. Did a really great job not turning the ball over. We just got stuffed inside and didnāt get to the line. We also didnāt maximize our opportunities at the line the rare few times we got there. Took about 70 shots and turned the ball over only 7 times is really really good.
Did a really good job on the boards too, pretty much even rebound% on both ends. If you had told me just that stat before the game Iād have guessed UVa won by 5+.
2pt% is better than I would have guessed too (44%).
The big key to this game was Tennessee shooting 42% from 3 vs 34% on the season. Theres only a few teams Iād pick to beat them when theyre shooting that well from deep. Also 25:11 ft disparity looms pretty large.
When I think of blown layups, Iām thinking of Whiteās reverse and Mallory right at the end.
Many of the first half missed ālayupsā seemed to be misses due to being clobbered in the act of shooting and no fouls called. Some of those were clean blocks, but many seemed to have some body contact that wasnāt called. Regardless - we missed the shots
We avoided a lot of layups we couldāve taken Nc we were scared of their bigs. Those ended in contested 3s.
I thought the same thing when watching it originally but after watching a replay of the game, those shots were heavily contested by Tennessee but they did an excellent job of not fouling. Sure, there were some blown calls in the game but Iām not going to blame our loss on the refs. Our team struggled all season with being physical without fouling. Iām sure if Odom had more time to work with this team, weād have gotten better at it. Iām looking forward to next year when we return DeRidder, Grünloh, Lewis, Chance, and the new bloods. We should be better at D.
Happy cake day dude. @HoozGotNext is slackin and @JBHoo is out shoppin for diapers proly so Fresh will pick up the slack and say Thanks for hangin with us homey
@zh00s is in Brussels trying to recruit another Belgian big and drinking Trappist ale
Thats the anti HGN salute. But ok
Ha I wish. That was just layover. Onto a place with far less beer and far more mosquitos.
