What about this guy makes you trust him more than posters you know on here? Not saying who is right or wrong, just find your post kinda odd
Maybe help me find the best Marley tribute band.
I can’t wait to watch these Mississippi State mods kick rocks
I think he’s gotten the timeline of things and chain of events correct so far. He’s a huge douche so I hope he’s wrong but we’ll see
I’m not saying I’m right or he’s wrong. But I’m gonna trust the Rector over a message board mod in this instance.
Could it bite me in the ass? Absolutely. People are wrong all the time. I’m hoping he’s right tho.
I did feel like money would come up from somewhere. The baseball fanbase is pretty old and well off in my experience.
Well, based on a recent Sabre post it’s over. That specific poster played baseball at UVA. Jokes on me.
Yeah Way saying he thinks it’s over is not a good sign, especially when he was hearing there was still a chance last night. He’s right up there as one of the most connected people to our baseball program.
Seems like the sources tied to the money are optimistic and the baseball guys have said he’s gone for sure. I assume he told the team or alumni network
I’m curious, some believe the needed funds were received or committed and O’Connor still appears to be leaving. Did this all boil down to this was a Carla issue? Seems if that was the root of the issue, nothing done was gonna keep him.
If he’s leaving, that really a bummer. I was optimistic. And wrong apparently.
Belief of donors probably along the lines of “if we can get him XYZ, he’ll stay”. Oak easily could’ve just decided he was moving on regardless.
Whatever the case, that 247 guy can still kick rocks and enjoy his very small and inconsequential career.
I think he just wants to be at a top SEC job. And they’ll give whatever he wants at a snap of a finger. But they’ll also fire him if he has a season like he just had
That still seems kinda fickle after his glowing comments from a couple weeks ago about how baseball was/is supported at uva.
What’s the history of UVA head coaches leaving for other college jobs, who’s done it in the past?
There are good reasons we fit either conference and reasons we fit one better than the other or fit neither.
The B1G sponsors every sport in which we currently field a team. The SEC doesn’t sponsor men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, wrestling or field hockey, so 5 sports would need to find an affiliate conference or be relegated to club status. Obviously the quality of some sports sponsored by both differ as well.
We have an enrollment of about 26k students, solidly in the middle of the pack in the ACC. The ACC has only 3 schools with more than 40k students, NC State, FSU and Cal. The B1G has only 3 schools with fewer than 40k, Iowa, Nebraska and Oregon. We’d be the 4th smallest school in the SEC above Vandy, Ole Miss and Mississippi State, but there’s only 6 over 39k.
We’re located in a smaller city dominated by the school, similar to most of the SEC besides Texas, South Carolina and maybe Kentucky and LSU. All the B1G schools are in larger cities, state capitals or suburban areas of large cities except Penn State, Oregon, Illinois and Indiana.
The SEC schools are located in a fairly compact geographical region in 2 time zones of which we’d represent the northeast corner. The B1G schools cover a much larger geographical area on both coasts but mainly in the Midwest where we’d represent the far southeast corner. The ACC also covers both coasts and Texas, but is mainly located up and down the eastern seaboard of which we’re right in the middle.
We have a great academic reputation, which fits well with the ACC. Using admittedly dubious USN rankings, the ACC ranges from 4 to 91 with an outlier at 179. The B1G ranges from 6 to 98 with an outlier at 159. SMU (91) or Oregon (98) would rank 6th in the SEC. We’d be 2nd between Vandy and Texas/Florida. Georgia and TAMU are around 50, everyone else is below 100.
We have about 125 mil in AD revenue, of which 45 mil is from the ACC. The SEC/B1G schools get about a 60 mil distribution (as of 2023, which has been and will continue to grow). If you impute our revenue to 140 mil with the greater distribution, we’re 12th in the B1G and 13th in the SEC. 125 mil is 12th in the ACC. We might not compete at the top of any league, but we shouldn’t be doormats either. We could compete to be at least average or better every year.
I think these are the main considerations for which conference may be more preferable between athletics, academics, culture, geography and finances. I’m sure everyone weighs each differently and that’ll guide preferences.
Hopefully one of these conferences values what we bring enough that we get an invite in the next realignment around 2030. Hopefully we don’t fall behind too much more in the next few years.
No one really.
Arena left for USMNT, Boland left for USA tennis?
Bernadino maybe?
But UVA hasn’t been a school that loses coaches to other schools…until now apparently
I will root against miss st baseball like it was my full time job.
Can’t forget that we lost Tony to UCLA.
