It’s part of the job. There are a ton of other ADs out there that get this and would get far worse if they oversaw 3 successful HCs leave in a short time like she has, but hey thats what the money is for! Shes a public figure and fair game to criticize. Search Scott Stricklin’s name on Twitter if you want proof this isn’t unique to us, and they just won a national title in basketball!
I actually think she’s pretty well defended by a lot of people. She’s got more defenders than your average AD imo. And as a whole our fanbase is pretty tame (busy with our zima and wine and cheese I guess).
If she wants to get better press she should make better hires and get better teams fielded. The trajectory of the department isn’t great right now, and she’s the face of that. If football turns it around, I’m sure she’ll get nice things said about her again, but right now we’re staring down the barrel of her losing a top 5 coach in a sport due to a fractured relationship with him amidst a backdrop of a HOF coach retiring in another sport and a putrid product in Scott stadium. Do you want us to write her a thank you card?
How do we know which party is to blame for a poor relationship? Seems you’ve taken one side, some others have taken the other side, but I’ve yet to hear a reason for either side or both to be blamed or not.
One side asking for things and not receiving them isn’t by itself evidence of fault absent reasoning behind each decision.
well that’s that. Onward and upward. But sheesh you coach somewhere for 24 years, take the team to multiple world series and a national championship. You weren’t being run out of town. I can’t think of a similar situation?
Wow. Donors and Athletics Dept stepped it up big time, and will continue to do so … for our next coach. Big News for UVA Baseball Fans:
After 22 remarkable years at the helm, Brian O’Connor is expected to be announced tonight as the new head coach at Mississippi State. While it’s certainly bittersweet to see such a beloved figure move on, there’s deep gratitude for all he’s done to elevate UVA Baseball into a nationally respected program and build a legacy that will never be forgotten.
On a positive note, I’ve heard that UVA is already receiving strong interest from some excellent current head coaches, and the administration is moving quickly to find the right leader for this next chapter. Wahoo Nation has a lot to be proud of — and a bright future to look forward to.
either there’s more to the story or this is just an inconceivably strange move. Like if Stanford or Texas open up, I get it. But Miss St? Is that a different school from Southern Miss. Or is it like Mississippi and Ole Miss are the same school. Are they actually in the SEC or is it more if a loose affiliation? No idea.
Am very interested to see what names circulate for our job. Have already heard the rumors of Mike Glavine and maybe Tom Walter. But I wanna see if there’s any interest at all from someone like Wasikowski, or Pollard, or Godwin.
Will probably have to fire up a coaching search post/thread at some point, though it’ll all be speculative until we start hearing more concrete names.
Imma be honest, I’d be pretty skeptical of Walter if Muscara isn’t coming with him. When you look at his resume with and without Muscara as his pitching coach, which is essentially from 2022 to now, it’s a VERY stark contrast in results.
I don’t think he’s a bad coach but I also believe his resume has been propped up by having an elite assistant on his staff and also very good NIL at his disposal.
