The flip side to this is that if Oak keeps moving the goal posts on what is necessary for him to stay and remain competitive as a program, it makes it a bit harder for the AD to to consistently anticipate and respond to those demands. Who knows what actually went down but it seems Carla must have felt that she had given Oak what he had said he had needed.

Agreed. I think the moves Carla has made recently have been a sort of audition to the SEC.

I think the argument is how she got to that funding. Really her funding has been in moments of crisis.

Easy to fundraise when you’re one step away from falling off the cliff. Would have liked to see more proactive funding and positioning. We’re consistently behind the 8 ball.

She also has a role in representing the conference. Now she’s not directly responsible for the failure of the conference, but she’s not held harmless either by her milquetoast representation.

Maybe she gets a “meets expectations” but I struggle with that even. Has not had good hires and has seen a couple HOF coaches leave. Not to mention, I think our game day experience has been really poor at Scott’s and JPJ (does she control facilities?).

the Dennis Womack slide was looooooooong.

Yup. It started with Tommy White. Then Cannon Peebles and Billy Amick. Now Oak — which is by far the biggest pelt in the SEC’s fleecing of ACC baseball.

Ew, based on the part of Oak’s letter to the team that was printed in the Cav Daily, he doesn’t use the Oxford comma. Good riddance, I say.

This is spot on. Carla has done plenty to try and position UVA for where we need to be when the time comes.

Separate posting here… I don’t think she’s sat on her hands in regards to fundraising. Look, you can’t force people to just hand over money, especially in the large amounts needed for a highly successful D1 program…

Not to derail too much but there’s a reason football donors stepped up when they did.

Baseball has gotten a ton accomplished in Carla’s tenure. I can’t be the only one who remembers what the Dish looked like in 2016?? They’ve also been working to step up the scholarship game, but let’s face it we’re talking a tripling of the wanted scholarship count. That’s not something that just happens overnight…

JMO but college baseball has kind of always been a sport of the haves and have nots, because of how scholarships work. I’m not a fan of Oaks handling of the situation here.

Yeah I mean if you’re docking her for CTB checking out then I don’t know what to tell you. This program has consistently struggled to resource football. She’s managed to resource it. She went out and resourced basketball once she had a coach that was interested in being resourced. She’s resourced women’s basketball. Baseball is a little tough but I cannot emphasize how shit of a situation this ACC is

Thanks for doing this. Solid list.

Will be interesting to see how wide a net we cast or if we zero in on someone quickly.

Would like to see us go for a big name but hearing Glavine’s name early.

I don’t think we can afford to wait for the Duke coaches of the world and then potentially be told no. Think we need a quick hire who can bring some guys. We’re going to need to turn over the entire roster, at least in terms of proven production. If you think people are annoyed with BOC now, wait until he takes all of our best returners with him

basically this is how i feel, with the caveat that the fact that a lower tier sec school can poach a coach from the ACCs top program over the last 20 years is unnerving.

Wasn’t really around for the Littlepage years with forums but what was the temp around him? It sounds like Williams gets a lot of heat but if she gets this kind of heat what was it like for Littlepage?

Not saying he deserves heat but kinda surprised at the takes she gets when she’s overseen 10 of our 35 national championships in 8 years. Littlepage with 13 titles in 16 years. Williams hired TE but Littlepage hired Mike London and then got to bounce back with Mendenhall.

Feels like people loved Littlepage but really surprised at the takes on Williams with arguably more success in less time in my opinion.

How many of those national championship coaches did Carla hire? “Overseeing” is a nonsense metric. Littlepage hired them all. Williams has been such a poor coach selector, that one has to wonder how much autonomy they’d even give her at this point. Not much, if they give a damn about success.

It’s a nonsense metric but then you can blame her for not supporting O’Connor at a championship level? You gotta pick one. Either stewarding programs is important or it’s not.

bronco left on her watch her football hire has been awful tina was awful hire mox hasn’t done anything one hall of gamer quits two weeks before the season started and another one bolts after 22 years maybe that has something to do with it

Would love to pair Glavine with someone like Zimmerman, just for the hell of it.

I think we’ll have lots of roster turnover, but I don’t see dudes like TV and Becker going to Starkville. They’ll have far better options in places that aren’t complete dogtown shitholes.

Again, nonsense. You don’t deserve heaps of praise for keeping incumbent hall of fame coaches from leaving, but you sure as hell deserve blame when your lack of support loses one in a sport that is heavily valued by one of the conferences we aspire to join. Do you think she should be applauded for keeping the swim and and men’s tennis coaches (whom Littlepage hired) happy, which is the crux of kjwilliams “number of championships overseen” post? It’s not that damn difficult. Stop grading Carla on a curve.
