⚾ 2025 Baseball Offseason

Personally, I wonder if people are overcomplicating this and nothing could have kept BOC. He came back this year thinking he had a national title contender. The team bombed and he was facing a (mini?) rebuild. What better time to get out with a clean slate if you’re already getting restless.

Why not a clean slate here? Why was he itching to get out of Charlottesville? Those would be the questions I would be asking if I wanted to keep OConner.

End of an era. One of the uva greats..

Time to move on though. We are an attractive job and should be fine

Will share this google doc I have going here if people want to read, it’s a quick and rough Head Coaching wishlist/hot board that I cooked up. Basically just a list of names that could be possibilities along with quick writeups for some of them. Not saying any of these guys will definitively be involved in the search, in fact in the case of a couple like O’Sullivan or Heefner I’d be surprised if they were.

Feel free to add names to the list if you want, will probably update once we get a more concrete hot board from Kendall Rogers and JF.

Damn

His recruiting base will have to change substantially. I don’t see many Jersey, PA, NY, MD, CT, and MA kids playing in Starkville.

In fact, there have been just two in the last six years — Hunt, who played four years through 2023; and Bednar, who played two, through 2021. (And before that, you have to go back to 2013! — Ammirati.)

I really think both sides are going to come to realize that the cultural fit just isn’t there.

Yeah there is absolutely a shot this is over 3 years from now with a bunch of uninspiring and frustrating teams. I do think the NIL commitment MSU is giving makes the floor unfortunately quite high though.

Wouldn’t mind a young up and comer who is less cocky than Tennessee’s coach but still pretty cocky.

Not sure the core baseball fanbase would love that lol

I used to use a lot of friends’ grandpas’ tickets for games when I was in school.

Hate to see Oak leave, but it was going to happen at some point one way or another. This is better than a long slide into mediocrity.

Maybe it will be a wakeup call to “Dr. Williams”. She needs to be doing the best she can for all the sports we offer to make them top tier programs. Otherwise we should not offer them. In this case, she did what she thought was enough, not the best we could do and it bit her in the ass. In this episode, she comes across as an unprepared novice. By trying to drum up a too late response to MSU, she proved that she had not done the best we could do up front, which is what all of our programs deserve. For her sake, I hope football is a clear success. If it is not, she will be a lame duck serving out her new contract.

And, it is the most non-UVa thing to call a non-medical person Doctor, so just stop doing it. It is pretentious and it does not increase someone’s qualifications to be our Athletic Director. Obviously, this is meant for another specific set of Carla supporters and not for uva123.

Ive been critical of Carla but I don’t really think y’all have the slightest grasp on the resource gap we have with the SEC lmao

We can’t respond to the resource gap by having constant fire drills when one of our coaches leaves or threatens to leave. It that is what it takes to make Carla successful at fundraising then she is not the right person for the job.

We are at a huge disadvantage. But, we have to decide if we want to stay with the big boys or move down a level. If we want to stay with the big boys, Carla’s job is to keep the whole program successful, because we aren’t going to be invited to the table based on football. Losing Oak is not a great look to the rest of the SEC.

Of course, it could be we are looking only at the B1G and, in that case, baseball would not be a top priority.

See that is where I disagree with your assessment. No, we are not going to be invited to the SEC or Big 10 because of our football program. But in order to be invited to either, we need to demonstrate that we are willing to resource football in a way that can be functional if we get invited to those conferences. To me, that’s been what Carla has accomplished. We can credibly go to either conference and say that we will resource our football program at a level that is not an embarrassment to the conference. Then the rest of what makes us attractive will carry us home.

And the main thing that makes us attractive is that we offer both conferences access to Virginia, both from an athletics (but more importantly) and enrollment perspective

Agree, but if it’s terrible and we are not perceived to be investing, it might be the reason we are NOT invited
