⚾ 2025 Baseball Offseason

Looks like Muscara to Miss St is pretty official now.

Why couldn’t Oak have just replaced Ds last year with Muscara?

Just another proof point that he was probably going to leave regardless.

I’m telling you from the sound of it, he’s been shopping around for a while. He did great things for us, but his exit was a garbage move.

Yeah, he’s a b.

Going to laugh my ass off the first meltdown their fans have when he bunts with a power hitter up with men on first and second and no outs.

My hope is that, if Ford doesn’t go to the draft, he stays around, being the hometown kid with endless NIL possibilities. Pull a Chance Mallory.

My hot takes.

These same people trashed Littlepage.

There was talk of Tony not being long for coaching for years.

Bronco was a weirdo. I’ve heard Covid took a lot out of him, his wife wanted to move, father or mother’s health was a factor. Wanted to be back West.

Not blaming Carla for either.

I don’t think this Barltimore Colts-like exit makes BOC look good; only thing missing was the Mayflower moving truck.

Hope that’s the case, not getting great vibes from that one right now though.

This actually lines up with a comment I just heard (second hand) today from a player’s parent. Said Oak seemed kind of checked out all season and that players could tell something was off.

Could be hindsight. But felt it worth sharing.

Will be interesting to see which players follow him to Starkville.

When something goes wrong the person at the top gets blamed rightly or wrongly. That’s life. Carla will be ok she worked at UGA for a decade. Our message boards are tame in comparison lol.

Hopefully they’ll tell Oak to suck it.

I no longer maintain VIP on 247, was there anything new and interesting in the names they are discussing for a new head coach?

I don’t really follow UVa baseball at all, but in retrospect there’s something about Oak and his bullpen project that reminds me of Calipari and the new practice facility at Kentucky.

It came to symbolize the coach’s unhappiness with the situation …

It’s strange because he seemed as happy and animated as he’d ever been in fall ball and the preseason.

Interesting, it felt like something was off this year. The regression of several players (mental mistakes that are uncharacteristic of his teams) was hard to comprehend.

I love BOC and will continue to hold his tenure at UVa in high regard but, like with Tony, I wish he had gone out on high note.

Agreed. Met with him at the radio preseason party at Aberdeen Barn and I thought he was amped for the season.

Like I said, just a comment that seemed to line up w what @CavTex mentioned above.

At the end of the day, I’m really bummed we lost him. But my grandmother used to always say that you should always leave things better than you found them and Oak did that in spades here.

A lot of the names are ones we’d probably expect at this stage. Tough to tell who will be real candidates but we should find out pretty quickly (Kendall Rogers still hasn’t released his hot board, was supposed to come out this morning).

In the meantime I just updated my google doc of names that have either been mentioned as candidates or rumored in specific places, along with a couple names that could maybe be linked to our job down the line. Some of them are definitely pipedreams. Will try to keep track of things as we go along.

I amused that the list has all of three of:

  1. The guy who was being a huge a-hole about his game getting moved back
  2. The guy who called out #1 for being a huge a-hole
  3. The guy who had to be the real-life version of Homer Simpson fading back into the bush after his team eliminated #1 and was asked to comment on #1’s a-holery

I’ve read about a few things Oak’s wanted for years and other frustrations. The bullpen of course, new lights and funding for some plane ride trips for midweek games against stronger opponents. Also something about the AD limiting certain pitcher usage. I hesitate to bring that one up because I don’t believe that one at all. I know Oak didn’t have the best reputation for taking care of pitchers arms, but guys signing up to pitch for him knew what they were doing and people in the baseball industry is paying our bills, they get no say. Williams maybe saying something to Oak like I’ve been hearing from other ADs that they hear from their baseball coaches that you should be careful with how you manage pitching schedules isn’t the same as don’t pitch that guy back to back days. Or if she’s relaying a message from a parent, I don’t fault her for that.

Anyway, the other stuff boils down to money and Williams didn’t have the money and couldn’t convince donors of the urgency of the need for that money until it became very urgent and too late. But Williams also oversees 25 teams and they all want money that we never have enough of. It’s hard to prioritize and I’m sure some coaches are more proactive in raising money than others which obviously helps the AD and maybe helps determine who should get more support.

Bullpen at the Dude is in the same spot as at Davenport. Maybe that was one of Miss State’s concessions.

I find it hard to believe the AD would mention pitcher usage.
