You could see it coming as soon as Griff got squeeze on that clear strike. Honeycutt I mean it was all anyone was talking about literally the entire time. Very clear if this situation arises don’t do this…
And yeah Berry I mean idk maybe I’m couch QB’ing too much here but you could tell instantly he shouldn’t have been in.

The Mississippi State game in 2021 is definitely one that can be debated. Yeah Griff was laboring in that 8th inning, but he also did have a no-hitter going before giving up that homer. To me that decision looks much worse in hindsight than it did when it happened, and our bullpen was super depleted going into that game. The batter right after that was a lefty tailor made for Brandon Neeck, but he was out with some undisclosed injury so we go to Messinger instead who gives up two straight hits. Probably should have went to Kyle Whitten instead. Then of course Schoch who was at like 50% health by his own admittance goes in and gives up the bomb that gave MSU the lead.
The Texas game I don’t have a ton of memory about, but I tend to agree that the UF game and UNC game weren’t handled the best at the end. UNC we were kinda damned if we do, damned if we don’t because the next guy up was their best hitter statistically but I remember thinking “We’re gonna regret pitching to Honeycutt” before he ended it.

Hire Pollard (the Duke HC of baseball). Pay him Carla- don’t overthink this.
He will bring some of his best players with him and retain some of the best UVA guys who are already in the portal (trust me I know). Lots of guys waiting to see what happens. He’s really good and can elevate our program considerably with our resources
Don’t need another rebuild - we already have that in football and basketball. Make the right choice.

Sometimes the timing of everything is important so making the tournament could’ve changed things. Shaka Smart was available to interview for and get hired by Marquette because Texas got upset in the 1st round. If they make the 2nd weekend, someone else is coaching Marquette right now. Could be the case here too. Or maybe MSU would’ve waited it out.

Yes - he is. It’s been a whirlwind for all the players the last 10 days. He’s exploring options but is eager to see who gets hired. He loves UVA.
As you know, a lot of these kids have been recruited by a lot of the same coaches not that long ago. There are relationships at UVA and at other programs amongst the players so everyone wants to see who the next coach is.
It’s a small world and I hope he stays but also want the best for him. He is a great kid that should have played more this year in my heavily opinionated “Uncle Chris” viewpoint. Can’t help it.
So we will see who Carla hires. Hope it’s a good one that the players in the portal like.

Oaks brother John runs the internal sales desk at a mutual fund co and is a client of mine. Great dude and always happy to talk UVa baseball. Next time I see him sure he’ll be happy to fill in some details but I’m guessing it’s just wanting to make another run at it and not getting what he felt he needed at UVa.

Does everyone lip read better than me? I knew beforehand what he purportedly said and I still can’t make it out. If I didn’t know, I wouldn’t even be able to hazard a guess.

Would be funny if he were just yelling out crap like “fortitude” and “honesty” and “humility” randomly.

On a comedic relief note, did anyone else see that poster on 247 who literally changed allegiances and is now a Miss State fan. He made a post on the MSU 247 board that someone saw and shared it with the group. Ended it with “Hail State”. Changed his username and everything, even throwing in a MSU baseball logo.

That kinda sums up the current state of college sports–he just transferred to what he thought was a better opportunity. We’ll have to wait and see how it turns out for him.
