⚾ 2025 Baseball Offseason

Would love to see a lot of our guys go other places besides Miss St. And I’m guessing at least some will see Starkville and say no thanks since they aren’t getting millions to move there like the coaches.

Told JoeHoo I thought Tennessee would be a landing spot for him bc they play on a little league size field. I kid of course but it is certainly a hitters ballpark. Would not want to pitch there

Do we really have a shot with Chris pollard? I’d love to have him back in his home state!

If he doesn’t go pro, Tennessee would be my bet. He visited there and liked it. I think he spent a couple years of HS in Nashville so I wouldn’t be surprised if he at least visited Vandy.

Going pro is most likely outcome, though.

Edit - I’m wrong, Baylor is in Chattanooga, not Nashville.

Edit2 - Also worth noting, track season is over and younger daughter graduates on Friday. I’m sure I’ll have the occasional STAB tidbit, and there are some side things I’m working on that may or may not work out, but my involvement there is probably winding down.

I saw a bunch of Twitter responses the other day to BOC’s MSU announcement. A good amount of them were not positive - many from MSU fans.

One fan equated it to a “Jimbo Fisher-esque” hire.

Yes, I’m bitter.

I hope he fails spectacularly.

They better hope they’re getting FSU Jimbo and not TAMU Jimbo.

i wish him well but would agree with the MSU fans that question the hire. Just seems that best case you get him for 10 years and he wins alot of games. Worst case, the fact that he left a great job at UVa says he’s burned out and looking for a change…and that rarely does a change actually have the intended effect of curing burnout.

hahahahhah amazing. This may crash and burn if he’s not in a CWS final by like year 2. Wonder if he got a Jimbo-style buyout?

Has Oak made any sort of public farewell statement to UVA?

I’m sure we guaranteed 100% of his salary, so I’d bet he got the same from MSU.

I wonder when we’ll get the buyout money from MSU.

Absolutely not. KK is the worst.

It must’ve ended ugly or something. The fact Oak hasn’t posted anything for uva is telling.

“It’s not you, it’s me”. Also pretty damning for the ACC as a whole when Oak makes it sound like the main reason he jumped ship because of the quality of competition. Gonna be hilarious when he misses the tournament for the next year or two because of the “grind” of the SEC and the MSST fans are calling for his head. It’s pretty clear we’re not getting the whole story though, seems like things weren’t great behind the scenes

Everyone is free to interpret O’Connor’s word how they want to, but it seems very much to me that he or his agent initiated the breakup.

And when you’re the one initiating the breakup, you’ve got to come up with vague (and pretty nonsensical) reasons to justify it.

22 years is a long time in one place and he sounds like someone who was ready for something new. Who knows if there was anything more to it. I still wonder if he was actually ready to leave last year but didn’t want to walk away from a national title contender.

Scattershooting: O’Connor answers why he left UVA : Jerry Ratcliffe

I know people have certain opinions on Jerry, but interesting note in this piece still:

He did seem disappointed though, that some Virginia fans have expressed disappointment that he left and didn’t thank them for their years of support. Well, we’re here to add some clarification to that. O’Connor told me that he sent the Virginia athletic department a letter to the fans (thanking them) three days ago so the department could post for Wahoo Nation to read. “They must not want to post it,” O’Connor said. “I don’t have social media. Otherwise, I would post it.” So if you’re a UVA baseball fan and think that he’s ungrateful, think again. That’s clearly not the case.

Might be more to the story, but I don’t think Hootie would make up a quote like that.

He could’ve done it the old fashioned way and bought an ad in the paper. Or a billboard. Or texted an image to literally any reporter.
