O’Connor introductory event at MSU taking place tonight, apparently there’s a good amount of our portal players in attendance. From what I gather Becker, Teel, Ford, Valincius, and James at a minimum are there, just to give an idea of guys we shouldn’t expect back.

While I’m sure it doesn’t hurt that he’s making double the pay there, I genuinely don’t think that was the main factor in him leaving.
Main factor was always the resources. Kendall Rogers also reporting tonight that MSU are expected to have the biggest NIL warchest in all of college baseball this offseason.

I finally got around to reading that article with Drew Dickinson. Not sure I’ve ever seen a coach be so blunt, but here’s one thing he said:
“You knew that [O’Connor] was going to raid our best players,” Dickinson said. “Like [Tomas Valincius] and [Eric] Becker and those guys, you knew that was going to happen. But there are still a lot of great players and pitchers here that can be foundational pieces to keep and make a great roster."

Overly simple way of explaining it, a lot of it is incentive based, and also the SEC being in a perpetual arms race with itself.

I will say my immediate reaction to that massive contract and the talk of having the biggest NIL budget in the country is “He better fuckin win quick”. With those kind of resources if he delivers a performance like UVA baseball had this past season, aka going from preseason #2 to missing the tourney, their fanbase won’t be as kind to him as ours was.

Christ, he’ll make over 3 mil most years with those incentives.
Our entire baseball spend last season was 6 mil. All the coaches and support staff combined made 2.3.
If they’re really fully funding 25 ships (at 50k each for them) plus 5% of rev share (about 1mil), that’s 2.25 mil. Plus his 3 is 5.25. Ballparking 1.25 for assistants and support staff gets us to 7. And we had 3 in all other expenses so that’s 10. More if they charter midweek games. And even more if they spend more than 1 mil in NIL.
There’s absolutely no way we were even close to matching a 10+ mil budget plus stadium improvements when we were at 6 last season.
I don’t know why he or us would be bitter and even if he and Williams were bffs, no amount of relationship goodwill bridges that kind of money gap.
Anyone still blaming Williams and angry with her over this?

2.9 mil would rank 13th in MLB. He’s making more than 18 major league managers. That’s just crazy.

Welp to move on to something less vomit inducing, there was chatter earlier today on thesabre baseball board that Carla was in Durham, NC yesterday. Could be nothing, could be something.
I will say the lack of rumors we’re hearing about candidates whose seasons are already done would lend itself to believing that we’re waiting for a coach still playing in the tournament to finish up.
