⚾ 2025 Baseball Offseason

Really can’t be bitter anymore. Just hope we see him down the line and get the W! Money always talks I guess.

My algorithm has been showing me a lot of miss state stuff and the vibes are frankly pretty off. Might be copium but idk if this is gonna work out well for anybody tbh

They’re used to good-old boys or good-old boy types down there — and charismatic coaches.

Neither of those describes Oak.

If he wins, they’ll get used to him. If he doesn’t, well….

Back to the search, given how quiet it’s been, it does feel like we may be chasing Pollard. He should probably be the pretty clear top choice. Beyond him, I’m warming up to one of the assistants: Brown, Elander, or Muscara now that he’s not following Oak to MSU. I still like Glavine but the more I think about it, the more I might prefer someone a bit younger if we don’t get Pollard.

Weird that Chris Graham didn’t even need to FOIA that

Not sure this has been posted. Oak was paid quite well relative to other coaches. He was T-8th, and that seems about right. His new salary will put him close to the top.

Regarding Pollard: I found this old quote from 2012 when he was at App State and beat UVA in that year’s Cville regional - it’s quite something. Getting semi Ryan Odom vibes lol

Nakos posted an update on On3. Says Pollard and Penders are top two focus. Don’t have access to the full article.

I assume Penders has been selected as the fallback if Pollard doesn’t work out? Wish we’d go young assistant vs Penders but I don’t know too much about him

Can’t argue with Penders’s results. 3 Super Regional appearances at a tough job in UConn, including 2 in the last 4 years (that’s two more than Miss St). Agree that I wish we’d skew a little younger but he’s certainly qualified.

They kinda got hosed by the committee this year. Top 40 RPI, series win over Miami, wins over UNC and Vandy, played a very tough OOC, 17-4 in the Big East.

I like Penders a lot. Would be very cool with him getting the job.

I get the desire for young, but I would be fine with just stabilizing the boat right now, and I think Penders would keep us pretty competitive.

One weird thing with Penders is his entire staff are UConn alums. And Penders’s family has deep UConn roots. Might be tough to pull him and also might beg the question how successful he’d be at a new school.

" Speaking with sources this week, Duke’s Chris Pollard and UConn’s Jim Penders have emerged as top names to know at Virginia. Wake Forest’s Tom Walter was a frontrunner for the Virginia opening, but took his name out of the mix."

Penders also knows how to game the RPI because of the struggles of UConn being in a (normally) one bid league. I.e. play a lot of games away from home against good teams in the non-con

Well I like 1 of the 2 options. Penders just doesn’t move the needle for me. He’s been successful at UCONN but just feels very meh. Would rather we go after a young assistant if we can’t get Pollard.

We don’t need to stabilize the boat right now. If that’s what you want, hire Dickinson.

We need to show we are serious about staying at the top of the game. Pollard makes that statement. Not sure Penders does.
