Does anyone know if there is a serious interest on Pollard’s part?
Yes
I assume based on his mention in several places at this point that he hasn’t turned it down and would like to hear us out.
Davenport is 100x nicer.
There’s really no decision to be made if we truly target Pollard.
Top 15 resources. Much better facilities.

Maybe a decision is made under the table??
Duke will put up a fight. And it might be too emotional to leave a program just after getting to Omaha. Sure, we are the better job and will always have a bigger commitment to baseball, but poaching him after a historic season won’t be straightforward. It’s what we need to do, though.
And I think it’s why Rogers added in that we can’t really afford to low ball Pollard on his offer. We’ve gotta make a really, really good investment not only in him but the program to make his decision easier.
I don’t know if Duke’s ego will let them lose him after an Omaha trip. They’ve got the pockets. My guess is we’re ending up with Penders.
Duke has probably the worst facilities in the baseball power two (SEC/ACC), I really doubt he’d stay even if the money was even
Edit: on second thought, BC exists.. but it’s close. Even with all the additional seating they added for the super regional you can tell how mid major the park looks
Empty pics for reference:
They lost Spurrier a month after they tied to win an ACC football title.
There’s precedent.
I recently took my daughter on a tour of Duke and the tour guide said - and this is an exact quote and he said it 3x over the course of the tour - “Duke is rich and we’ve got a lot of money and we can do whatever we want.”
I’m just saying that I would be surprised if they don’t match us if he gets them to the CWS, as is likely.
They might be able to match us in head coach salary but they can’t in overall program commitment. That said, they may be able to make it close enough to prevent him from leaving (but as we’ve seen with Oak, sometimes it’s not enough).
Yeah but they don’t have a time machine to even go back and put lipstick on that pig that is their home ballpark and facilities.
To put a finer point on it, if UVA offers a comparable package of salary and support to Pollard that O’Connor was due to receive at UVA, it’s a no-brainer.
BC gets to play one game per season at Fenway …
Have heard conflicting things about this but my understanding is that at least some of the funds raised were contingent on O’Connor being retained and may not be available anymore now that he’s gone.
So not sure if the package will be the exact same as what was pitched to O’Connor, but it’ll still likely be much more than what Duke is able to offer.
well then we definitely aren’t getting pollard, then
It very likely won’t be ALL of the donations, but guessing if it’s for Pollard, many donors would sign on. That’s also the advantage of hiring a more known commodity
It does seem like a lot of people close to the program are rooting for Pollard to get the job (even past Hav campaigning for him in this thread lol).
Who the f does that pitch appeal to? God they’re awful
