I’m not familiar with baseball coach history. Has any coach changed jobs immediately after making the CWS? Especially for the first time as a program or the first time for that manager? I know it doesn’t happen often, if ever, for basketball FF coaches.
SMU does quite well with this pitch lol
Schlossnagle did it last year, leaving Texas A&M for its biggest rival after being in the title series. No reason to think he wouldn’t have left even if they’d won.
If we just offered Pollard what we were already giving Oak it would be extremely hard for Duke to make a compelling counter-offer (although obviously there are other factors in his decision) Give him some of the last minute funds raised to keep Oak and he’d be hard pressed to turn it down.
Link Jarrett led Notre Dame to the CWS in 2022 for his first CWS appearance as a head coach. Then he left to coach FSU.
FWIW, Duke has made 3 CWS appearances before (1952, 1953, 1961).
I mean almost O’Connor.
If he had done what he should’ve with this team, I think he’d still be in Starkville right now.
He’d still be playing right now
Jay Johnson (LSU) is another.
He took Arizona to the CWS in 2021 then left to coach LSU afterwards.
And all of these examples of coaches leaving for programs with more prestige and resources.
And the good thing is we know they never get one.
What do you mean? It’s perfectly calibrated to appeal to entitled assholes. It’s perfect for them.
Might not have to wait all that long on Pollard after all. Game 3 coming tomorrow for Duke.
Louisville to Omaha. UNC remaining in Chapel Hill — that’s a shame.
At this point I would take Pollard over the field at Chucks sportsbook
Is it still quiet on all ends? Feel like a deal is made or about to be made pending tomorrow’s results.

The silence is deafening.
One of the greatest calls of all time. Reece!!
We probably won’t hear much else until the super regional results fully shake out.
Tennessee’s season is about to end, which helps us if Elander is a real target. Other than that, root for Duke to lose tomorrow if you want the process to speed up a bit.
I don’t need additional reasons to root for Duke to lose, but I’ll take them.
Updates from Jacquie and Madia:
JF says: “Pollard is the top candidate, sources confirmed to me - even if Duke wins tonight, I think he would remain the top candidate.”
GM says: “Over the last three days, multiple sources have indicated to The Daily Progress that key candidates for the gig are Duke’s Chris Pollard and Connecticut’s Jim Penders… Sources believe Pollard is the favorite.”
The consistency in all of this reporting concerns me a bit if we haven’t already locked up Pollard. Doesn’t give us a ton of leverage in the negotiation with him OR Penders if Pollard says no.
We should be chumming the waters with interest in some assistants or other guys if Pollard tells us no and we’re just negotiating with Penders!
Think we likely just have Pollard fairly locked up pending a really nice run from them in Omaha.
