Make that 4-3 Murray State after a solo HR to lead off the inning.
Same. I’d like the bird in my hand as soon as possible, and possibly getting a couple of them out of the bush isn’t worth the risk of missing both and settling for some other, inferior, bird.
Duke PH is from Crozet. I feel incredibly conflicted.
5-4 Murray State heading into the 9th.
murray state please (chris pollard i NEED you )
Wow
OOOOH, that’s gotta sting.
Edit - Hmm. I dunno. Depends on the wording of the rule.
Edit2 - I think he’s out of the baseline, his lead foot was clearly aimed at the fielder, but could go either way.
Edit3 - Well, damn.
Huh. Thought the runner’s left food was off the plate (despite the announcer repeatedly saying “directly at the bag”). I mean it never did touch the bag.
Didn’t realize Grayson Allen was on the Duke baseball team.
If Duke ties it or wins it here that’s gonna be an unbelievably tough scene for Murray State.
Ok NOW Murray State does end it for real.
Ok, that’ll work, too.
Thankfully it didn’t come to that.
And putting all UVA considerations aside, you gotta be happy for Murray State. Cool to see them get to Omaha.
Murray State advances to the CWS. Duke’s season is officially over.
Now Chris Pollard is on the clock. Would imagine we’ll hear something one way or the other within the week, as both sides are gonna want to get ahead of it and get to work on the portal/building their roster.
If Pollard doesn’t work out, maybe we should make a run at Skirka
I was just thinking, “That Murray state coach and his kid would be pretty fun to have in the dugout…”
Edit - That’s going to be a treasured memory for the kid for the rest of his life.
Edit2 - Epic way to end the interview. The coach is talking to the ESPN guys about what the win means means to him and the program very professionally, and finally says “Its been good talking to you guys, but there’s something I need to do.”
He then calmly starts taking off the headset and carefully setting it down. The camera pans back and you can see the whole team is surrounding him, waiting quietly. He finishes putting the headset away and turns to the team still all calm and controlled. Then he suddenly breaks in a huge smile, throws his arms up in the air and yells something, and the team just goes bananas.
I dunno, can Pollard win the big one?
I’m kidding!
Just needs a change of scenery
I will say this was easily the best opportunity Duke’s had to make it to the CWS under Pollard. 2023 supers they lost to us, 2019 they lost to eventual national champion Vanderbilt, and 2018 they lost to a really good Texas Tech team.
Hosting a super regional against a 4 seed, you gotta win that series. But it might end up benefiting us so hey it is what it is.
Two teams from Kentucky in, but not one from the SEC.
