I mean Pollard would be a complete HR, no? I don’t follow baseball as closely but would have to feel really good coming out of this with Pollard given how things looked just a couple of weeks ago
I kinda think the week preceding Omaha is a decent time to get a deal done, assuming there’s legit interest on his end. May not be announced until after CWS and always a risk of him changing his mind if Duke wins the natty or something, but I would think there’d be an opportunity to speak with him midweek, maybe even in Omaha.
Hypothetically, if it’s going to be Pollard, would you rather him hired:
- Today, after another Duke Supers loss
- Next week after a CWS run
I kinda like the idea of poaching a CWS coach.
All the messaging and silence otherwise feels just like the Odom hire and starkly different than the Elliott, Mox and Thompson hires.
Like the rumored top candidate is the most obvious candidate likely to take the job and there’s no wavering from that through weeks of silence.
I like the idea of Duke losing and poaching their coach. An additional win vs. Murray State won’t change my mind much on Pollard and risks a bunch of other variables coming into play that might take him from us.
I think the Elliott hire would have proceeded the same way except for the end run attempted with Dex’s candidacy.
Tickets for tonight’s Super Regional can still be purchased on Duke’s website. Kinda shocking.
They are out of pitching
Murray State shelled them yesterday
Look for more of the same, hopefully, tonight
I hate doing this but I had to read this 3x to confirm that this guy actually thinks UVA would be a lateral move for Pollard. He might not take the job, but lateral move is a wild take
The Cesspool houses some miserable people.
I wasn’t expecting a link to TS. I don’t wander over there very often, so don’t know that poster, but it seemed like him vs everyone else.
What I didn’t get is his premise is that the schools are fairly equivalent and in the same conference so that by itself makes the programs equal and therefore a lateral move? I mean first of all, I love UVA and am proud of my degree, but as academic institutions, they’re about as equivalent as their MBB programs. And the disparity for baseball is even wider going in the other direction. Yeah, if Duke funded their program as well as we do, then it would be more equal, but they never have and probably never will. Even current matching funding would mean they have millions in infrastructure upgrades to merely catch up. Ain’t happening guy.
When I saw who it was posted by I knew how much credence to give to it. Not the first time that individual has had a strange take.
I know the answer is “no” but any concern about Pollard not being able to win the big one? I’ll hang up and listen.
Yeah I’d love to hear some takes from those who follow baseball recruiting closely… my quick answer is no concern because the issue has been ability to bring in top end talent, more of a developmental approach due to not being able to compete resource wise. But I admittedly don’t follow baseball recruiting to the level to say that’s an accurate take.
My biggest question is if Pollard comes does Weaver have any eligibility left? Super regionals 2023 section 102 stand up ![]()

It’s definitely a question mark for him given that if they lose today that would be 0-4 in super regional series during his time there, though I really think it’s more of a statement on Duke’s baseball program as a whole than a reflection on him as a coach. It’s not an easy place to win or recruit to, they have some of the worst baseball facilities in the ACC and it’s not like they’re getting tons of money in NIL or anything. A lot of the guys they get out of the transfer portal are Ivy Leaguers, which is a smart strategy that has worked out really well for them but you’re limited in what kind of talent is available to you.
For what’s been available to him from a resources perspective, he’s done an amazing job. But it does feel like he’s scraping the top of the ceiling at Duke.
pollard just interviewed on ESPN mid game. seems like an impressive dude. nice SW Virginia accent. seems more relaxed than Oak, who always sounds wound super tight.
Amherst is Southwest Virginia?
Duke leads Murray State 3-2 after 5 complete.
Does Duke going to the CWS increase chances of more funds being available to Pollard (and the program as a whole) once he gets here?
Duke and Murray State now tied at 3 heading into the 8th.
