⚾ 2025 Baseball Offseason

Update from MSU’s 247 insider. Still saying the deal isn’t done but would be a surprise if it doesn’t go through. Interesting tidbit:

“As this began to heat up last week, I am told Virginia let BOC know that they hope to keep him there until he retires. I understand they were willing to address some of the rev share and scholarship issues. My source said he appeared to be okay with what was presented and felt he would remain at UVA. That was later shared by another source independent of the first. I was informed that State AD Zac Selmon was undeterred and came back with an even larger commitment for State baseball and that is when things grew more serious.”

Also later goes on to say that if this happens BOC will be bringing most of his on and off the field staff with him outside of Dickinson, and that he doesn’t think DD will be a serious candidate here for our HC job.

We’re essentially hoping for a Hail Mary last minute pitch from Carla and our administration.

I had an internship with the baseball team back in '02 when Grisham’s son was on the team and he donated all that money for the stadium. I met him once at one of the games. Does he still live in the C’Ville area?

Go all in on Football Basketball baseball.

Women’s bball can be funded through sponsorship of reddit (Yes I know Ohanian isnt involved anymore) or whatever venture he’s currently involved in.

Yes. Owns a ton of land in Albemarle County but I think that he might live across the mountain now in Augusta County.

Or a donor to step up big(ger)?

I read this as kinda hopeful actually. Just give him a reason to stay guys!

Can anyone copy in what Nakos wrote in his article about this? Seems to be what kicked a lot of the new stuff off.

Don’t think it’s a donor needing to step up.

The house settlement has a cap of $20.5 million. Miss St is basically saying we are going all in on baseball as 2nd fiddle to football. It would require UVA cutting the pie different and who gets left out? (why I wish we had a good football coach who could get the most out of players instead of spending millions on 40 DBs to go 7 wins in the ACC).

I suspect for the big gifts, there’s a ton of strings on everything. Being a good non-profit fundraiser is always an in-demand skill, but for university development folks we’re entering an absolute golden era.

So we stepped up and he’s still leaving ugh

Sounds like we stepped up, but only to an extent. He said ‘some’ of the issues, to me that means we tried to compromise a bit. Maybe I’m reading too far into it though.

My friend from college has known John for a long time and I got to know him decently well during my time at UVA. I got to watch many terrible Mike London games in his box (the “KHALEK GET OFF THE FIELD!” game being one of them). I texted my friend to ask John to save the program again, so if Oak stays you can thank me.

If this is true and we met his demands, and he still leaves, then either his demands weren’t demanding enough or he’s just ready to move on. If you ask for X and we give you X, that should be the end of the conversation.

He still has an on-call Learjet at Charlottesville Airport with salaried pilots & aircrew that just sit around all day waiting for him. It’s obscene how much money some people have. :joy:

He probably has as much as the entire MSU endowment

If we want name continuity we could hire Billy O’Conner from Xavier.

ugh the reports about him taking WF’s pitching coach with him are already coming out. Seems like a pretty done deal. Damn a good new pitching coach would get me pretty excited for next season!

Bigger CBB nerds than me-- who will be on our candidate list?

And how many of our players go with him?

Only starting to look at names but I like Mike Glavine at Northeastern.

John’s a friend. Still lives here in town. Has had a ln interesting relationship with UVA baseball over the years. Very much a supporter of Oak and of UVA but I don’t think he’s tipping the scales for or against us in this situation.

I get the feeling that we are very much getting a lesson in where we sit in the current pecking order of college athletics.

Do I think Oak wants to leave? Not necessarily. But I do know that Oak and Carla have issues and have had them. Speculating on this next comment, but we wouldn’t be having this discussion if he had a better relationship with the AD.

I know who I’d choose to keep!

It’s tough to tell. If the funding issue becomes a sticking point, no matter how valid that is, it’ll hurt our potential candidate pool.

I think Glavine is a good shout. Jim Penders from UConn will probably get a look. Wishful thinking candidate would be Mark Wasikowski at Oregon. And then there’s a handful of assistant coaches we could contact.
