⚾ 2025 Baseball Offseason

I say this as a Carla Hater but 3 very unique situations

  1. In OConner’s case, should UVA baseball take a bigger slice from Basketball and football? Miss St doesn’t care about basketball (and basketball is one of those sports where you can do more with less).

  2. In Tony’s case; he was just cooked. Both on the court and off the court and his will also defeated by the changing college sports world and also the satisfaction of already having the end goal (a national title). Just speaks to his life philosophy of things bigger than sports. I imagine he is much happier retired even if that drive returns in a few years

  3. In Bronco’s case, yeah we didn’t pony up money and investments post Orange Bowl but he was also a weak recruiter in general and his undying loyalty to Nick Howell was illogical.

@jazznutUVA you can move this if needed. We are about to go off into the “thoughts on the state of UVA athletics” tangent

It’s been hinted at before but I know that Oak has had some minor issues getting things done in terms of facilities improvements. He wanted new lights and a bullpen put in LF at a minimum, neither of which have gotten done yet.

Little shit like that adds up over time.

Yeah considering he’s been floating around for the State job as well Wasikowski would be the home run hire. Moving from the Big Ten to the ACC is a step up but wondering if maybe not big enough.

As long as he brings his brother as pitching coach.

And he could just wait a bit for A&M to hire Rob Vaughn and then just take the Alabama job. That is if his goal is to get into the SEC.

Wait until Oak realizes Dudy Noble field has its bullpen in the exact same location (post massive renovation).

Carla should’ve cultivated a donor base to keep BOC. She failed. End of story. That’s pretty much her entire job. She’s now lost Bronco, Tony, and O’Connor.

I look forward to seeing her celebrate women’s basketball donations and jumping in the pool with the women’s swimming team. It’s pretty much all we have at this point unless Odom works out

Well Mike is a damn good pitching coach and has a very good pitching coach of his own in Kevin Cobb.

Donor base is maybe not as relevant. It’s the house settlement cap and how we are willing to slice the pie slices relevant to other schools. Any independent contributions north of $600 get audited in this new scheme

Sorry to be blunt but anyone who pins Tony and Bronco on Carla can’t be taken seriously, in my opinion.

Oak? Sure, have at it. But those other two were just unique individuals that probably were always going to do their own thing regardless of who was in the AD seat.

Mitch Canham at Oregon State. He’s only 40, too.

Yeah it’s just people annoyed at our place in college athletics. We are lucky we got money for football and basketball and hopefully Odom works out.

We can explain every situation away if we want, but she was in charge when the successful coaches at the 3 biggest sports stepped away and all reports are that we have been flatfooted on NIL (and that’s probably generous).

Casual fans are texting me about this ready to fire Carla, it’s not a good look. My hokie mother called me asking about it! We’re coming off what I genuinely think is one of the worst years in UVa athletics’ modern history, at least the last 25 years or so and have national championship coaches retiring a week before the season and leaving us for Starkville, Mississippi.

If anything we need to reset because its so damn embarrassing.

It’s not like you can trust her to make a decent hire.

ditto jazz feel free to move I have lots more thoughts and dont want to clog this thread with them

OSU alum. Gonna be a hard poach but maybe the conference uncertainty gets him to jump ship.

We aren’t able to fund as many scholarships as SEC and other top ACC programs like UNC. That’s on Carla for not getting it done. There’s tons of money flowing into a lot of other sports but she didn’t get it done for baseball

She failed to get the football facility commitment during Bronco’s tenure. Massive blunder on her part

For sure the optics are really bad. And yeah maybe don’t have full faith in Carla making the best hires.

Will be an interesting off-season. My expectations for football are already low after watching the RedZone struggles in the spring game and not amount of money spent on DBs is going to change that concern. Look forward to being proven wrong though

Don’t mention this specific thing on the 247 board. You’ll get told you hate the program, have mental health issues and abuse animals (no seriously I got accused of all of this).

Yes because the SEC makes a shit ton more money than we do. That’s the reality. Their TV money lets them get to the 20 mil cap every year. It’s quite obvious that ain’t happening with all of the programs we have to fund taking up more of the pie as well.

I would mortgage Scott Stadium for the baseball program. I know it’s not how things work economically, but its an issue of priorities and I think she’s making those decisions poorly.

Stack chips on a guy who makes the post season 19/22 times and the CWS half the time, or bet on the potential of some of these other programs?

I know you have to have a football team and contend to have a shot in realignment, but the time to be serious about that was probably a few seconds before you hire Tony Elliott from Dabo’s car while he’s driving him to the airport.
