In no universe is Chance currently better than TDR. He may be the most under the radar nationally hyped player weāve had in a while. Heās arguably a top 15 player in CBB, but his game is a little rudimentary (not a bad thing) and there are so many big time players that he gets a bit lost in the crowd. Fine by me though, folks will remember.
I think a good nickname could elevate his aura a bit. Iāve heard Tank thrown around, but Iām also partial to TDR and hope it catches on nationally. Something hard about initial nicknames
I mean, TDR is ACC preseason POTYā¦ that feels like pretty good hype
The thing that will elevate his hype is winning.
In fall of 2018, Gary Parrish didnāt know / barely knew who Ty Jerome was (I remember from an early season podcast). Now he spends a couple hours a day talking about him (on his Grizzlies radio show).

I mean Chance had a higher BPM, WS/40, O rating, and D rating last year. If Chance keeps similar efficiency in more minutes and with higher usage (probably unlikely) heād grade out as the better player in most analytics

I guess itās time for me to set my expectations for the team this season, so a few quick questions: 1) what is the consensus on this forum for how good this team will be? Will calibrate down off of that overly optimistic nonsense; 2) who is really going to be our #1 PG? Folks must be joking when they say Chance is the guy; 3) who is on the team besides Chance? Anybody? Anybody at all?

I would guess the consensus, to the extent there is one, is second weekend, with some optimistic hopes for a third weekend, but no expectation of that. So somewhere between 5 and 16, roughly

If chance has the most important ability, maybe we are ~4 seed lose in the second round team. If he does not, we are fucked.
If we kept everyone to lose in the second round again I will be upset tbh.
Second weekend should be the expectation, elite 8 should be achievable.
I think expectations for a successful season should be about 8-12 final ranking, top 4 in ACC regular season, a 2-3 seed in the tournament. Make the ACCT Finals and Sweet sixteen.
But Iām pumped there is potential for an elite season! Maybe like a 5% chance we are just world beaters and get a 1 seed and an Elite 8 or Final Four! Nice to go into the season with that hope being realistic optimism rather than delusion

I find the expectation for both an elite 8/sweet 16 exciting but frustrating. Its great to have a very good team! But at the same time, if you told me at the end of last season that weād return Lewis, GrĆ¼nloh, Chance, and TDR, I would have said forecasted that weād enter the season as a national title favorite

Not with Duke and Florida in the picture. I think we could materialize into a FF team by March though. I donāt think Iād put money on it, but itās absolutely possible.
People who didnāt agree with our roster strategy and money allocation this offseason will probably groan at this, but I think retaining Lewis was our splash get at the 2. Heās playing more like a true guard and looks fantastic doing it, showed some playmaking off the dribble and had a couple of really nice passes. Gertrude looked great as well and I thought Dixon showed some flashes, not sure why it took him so long to check into the game. Thatās a strong four man rotation at the 1-2, can mix in Vide and Harmon when needed but those four should be getting the bulk of the minutes.
Am momentarily going back on my promise of not thinking about āwhat ifsā now that the season is here, but I will stake my claim right now that failing to land a quality backup space eater big was a significantly bigger issue than failing to land a splash transfer at the two.

I feel like Iāve seen this, but do we have a look at eligibility remaining for everyone on the team? My son was asking me last night, and with the 5-in-5 rule (plus age restrictions), I was having a hard time piecing together everyoneās age, listed class, etc.
