I always thought that Sands was a big reason everything has slowed down sports-wise… infrastructure improvements, investment, courting whale alumni, etc.

It really depends on how involved the president was in sports decisions. ADs and coaches don’t necessarily change with presidents. New presidents also rarely make big decisions like that in the first year. Conversely, VPs and Provosts often do change with a new president.

VT’s board has asserted their dominance and gone all in on football again. It’s how they got Franklin to commit and I’m guessing the next president will be fully aligned with that football first (like first before actual academia) mentality as well. Think they know how much the University will suffer if UVA ends up P2 and they do not. Their entire rise as a University centered around good football
