🏀 2026 Outside the ACC Off-Season

Yeah I mean I guess he’d be eligible under 5-5 unless they explicitly carve out guys who were in college and chose to leave (which seems plausible).

RJ Luis does have potential to be Wade’s LSU version of Darrion Williams - hyped add with high usage and mediocre efficiency that doesn’t quite add up to the same level of impact in a new context.

Charlie Baker said explicitly that these guys would not be eligible so a lawsuit is coming

He’s still playing? Wow, his recruitment seemed like forever ago.

Which part did he say would be ineligible? Luis played in 23, 24, 25 and sat out 26, so he’d be a 5th year senior in 27 (unless he redshirted in 22, I didn’t check). He didn’t exhaust his eligibility in 26.

Then declared for the draft, wasn’t drafted. Signed a 2 way, was cut in camp, never played any games. This doesn’t seem that outrageous to me if you compare his case to some others that have been allowed.

Bediako was basically the exact same situation and got denied other than he played in g league games.

Objectively hilarious graphic.

Will be funny if LSU players lose their cases and Will Wade has no team to run with for next season

Bediako played in GLeague games and was on a 2 way with the Spurs for several months during the season where he was eligible to play in NBA games. I’m not sure if the Spurs ever listed him on a game day roster and he dressed for a game and participated in warm-ups, etc., but I think you can draw a distinction between those cases.

If you sign an NBA contract, including a two-way, you are ineligible.

I think he could draw a distinction between signing the 2 way, but being cut before he ever played a game and actually playing games while on a 2 way.

There’s no real difference between his situation and a guy who played in summer league and got a training camp invite/signed a training camp contract who was then cut and played in Europe.

Maybe I’m wrong, but the “signed an NBA contract” standard seems to apply form over substance. The standard should probably be “played in games while on an NBA contract, even in the GLeague, while on a 2 way.” And how would you treat Exhibit 10 contracts?

Yea at least according to the ncaa it doesn’t matter if you play or not, just if you sign a contract. We’ll see I guess

What is the principle that allows a player to sign a contract for a EURO pro team but not for a US pro team and maintain eligibility?

Assume lawyers have a better name for it

Practically speaking, it makes sense. Euro players often sign with pro teams when they’re very young, because historically there was very little infrastructure to play competitive basketball at a high level outside of the pro system (ie there isn’t quality high school team basketball like there is in the states). So the decision for Euro kids to “turn pro” typically happens at like the age of 15-16.

And until recently, there wasn’t an obvious path to playing American college ball either. Sure some kids occasionally got recruited over but it’s not like they were playing AAU events in front of every college coach all summer. So I do think there should be some leeway for the European pros compared to someone like Ruiz or Bediako who both made conscious decisions to leave college and forego their NCAA eligibility.

Would this coach happen to be bald and coach somewhere in New England?

Will Wade is doing “foul on every possession because the refs won’t call all of them” as a roster building strategy

Will Wade could just coach professional basketball. I don’t really understand why he wants to coach college basketball at this point.

Fun guessing game. I’m actually gonna go with Izzo

Izzo would meet the criteria of “sufficiently rude” to give that quote but I think he’d be perfectly happy if no one could recruit guys with pro experience. Looking for someone who uses that pathway but perhaps in a more reasonable way.
