there are few if any MLB pitchers 5’9” in todays game, which is about throwing mid 90’s+ fastballs and sliders at 90. “off speed” is like 85 now! Hell some guys changeups are faster than a fastball from the 1990s. A guy 5’9” that pitched in the A10 is not a threat to head to the minors after maybe getting drafted in the 20th round on a flyer pick.
It’ll be fascinating how the MLB draft evolves with NIL and 5 in 5 and the current CBA negotiations. There might not even be a draft next summer if there’s no MLB. Even if there is a new CBA, they could change the draft. Or even if they don’t, it used to be that 3rd year draftees signed because if they came back for a 4th year and got drafted, they’d have no leverage and have to sign for like a 5K bonus if they wanted to keep playing baseball. But under 5 in 5 a guy could get drafted after his 3rd year and still have leverage that he can come back for a 4th, be drafted and not sign and come back for a 5th and be paid NIL in both years. So the money advantage of signing earlier might not be there anymore and a guy might want to sign earlier just to get into a pro minor league system with better coaching.
There is defintely going to be an MLB season next year, most likely with all 162 games. There is too much at stake for both sides not to make a deal, MLB has TV rights for sale. All this doom and gloom is just posturing.
The owners are teasing this salary cap thing because they have slowly but surely gained more power from the players over the last few CBA negotiations due to Tony Clark’s incompetence and the shortsightedness of the high earning players. As well as having public sentiment on their side with what the Dodgers have been doing recently. Which is, by the way, basically the same thing the Mets have been doing but thats really a topic for another day.
Anyways, the owners are going to end up conceding the salary cap because the players union will never ever go for it and in the meantime pick up some wins elsewhere that they actually wanted the whole time. And the PR will be that they conceded when reality is the owners will be grabbing even more power over the players.

I get why players would never agree to a salary cap but if they negotiated a significantly raised floor and min salaries, so many players would benefit.
The NBA is probably not a great example given the massive differences in player pool and team size, but imagine where Lebron was able to earn $100M a year. You think someone would have paid Deandre Hunter what they did?
I think baseball contracts are ridiculous as they stand today. The opt outs, the deferred money, the years and dollars…

I mostly agree with that. I don’t really want to get into the MLB CBA negotiations here. I’m just pointing out various issues that could affect whether a 3rd year guy might or might not get drafted next year and whether they must or may not sign.
Georgia wins 11-9 in 10 and eliminates Mississippi State from the NCAA tourney.
Never a ‘bad’ season when you host a regional and make it to the Supers, but given how much money MSU pumped into their program this offseason I think a good chunk of their fanbase is probably disappointed they didn’t make it to Omaha.

Also on the Hanson stats, my understanding is he got injured either before the season or sometime early in the season. Don’t think he ever got fully healthy, his 2024 year was much better.
EDIT: Actually it was before the 2025 season, missed that entire year.
Hanson was coming back from a torn ACL.
He’s from Winston Salem, so he should be someone the staff knows well. At worst, he should at least give us depth at the corner infield spots. I believe he played 3B for Yale prior to the injury. I’m all for more alternatives on the hot corner.

Would be very surprised if Forbes left. Granted it’s not terribly dissimilar from Oak leaving for MSU, but I think this one is even less likely.
Forbes is from NC. Probably grew up a UNC fan. And UNC seems to have more money than us for non revs so I highly doubt he leaves unless he’s having a really hard time recruiting against SEC. But they are back to Omaha yet again so it’s hard to believe that’s the case.
Yeah I don’t see Forbes leaving UNC for the dumpster fire at SC right now, especially for $300K annually.
Forbes feels likes he’s in the point of his career that Oak was when big programs first started calling. There is just too much left to be done for Forbes at UNC right now and I would agree that he’s got more natural loyalty to UNC (NC native, long assistant tenure, Mike Fox personal connection) than Oak had at UVA. Oak’s loyalty at UVA was different in that it was due to getting his big shot and then personally building the program with his own hands.
I could see Forbes leaving for a high end SEC job in the relatively near future, simply because the gap between their available funds and everyone else’s grows wider by the year. ACC is now closer to the B1G and Big 12 in terms of ability to compete financially, UNC is at or near the top of our conference but would probably be middle of the pack in the SEC.
With that being said, I don’t see Forbes entertaining the SC job. Never say never but that program and athletic department is in a rough state.

Only Tomas V got any real PT, right? Teel was a utility man. Chone James and William Kirk barely played. Jack Bauer was removed from the rotation at 2.4 starts.

Teel was a starter for a majority of the season, then suffered some kind of injury/illness that kept him out for a couple weeks and I think during that time he lost his starting spot to Tomas’s brother.
Kirk tore his ACL a couple weeks into the season.
James and Nunnallee both got PT early in the year but it lessened into SEC play. I think James might be in line to start at 2nd next year but not a guarantee. To be honest I think those two were the ones who made really bad decisions, they should have either stayed or transferred elsewhere.

And if its that close and he’s coming off another trip to Omaha, I think UNC will find the $ to make it an easy decision.
