Ball handling - Essentially said there is no backup pg to Chance and ball handling outside of Chance will be handled āby committeeā. The first 3 good ball handlers he named in order were Martin, Eli, and Jan.
Kalu Anya - a good shooter that will play the wing (???). That he and Jurian Dixon are both great defenders on the wing.
He let Michael Belle take a lot of threes without barely making any and got an outlier shooting season out of Jack Clark at VCU, so I take from those experiences (and Ugo) that his inclination is to green light aggressively and hope that leads to more confident shooting.
These were the things that stood out to me as well. Especially point #1.
Iām starting to get a feeling (nothing substantial just a hunch) that Vide wasnāt actually brought in to be the backup PG. Heck, Odom said we donāt have a backup PG so thatās not a leap. He might have been brought in as a safety net in case options like Point Carrere, Point Eli, Point Sam - his committee idea - donāt end up working out.
In the Luke Neer / best seat podcast interview of Grünloh, he spoke favorably of Ibe. Need to be aware of the Kyle Guy / Stattman issue, but still, itās something.
Chance: Worked on his body, ālot of pressure on him but heās built for it,ā shooting the ball well and making plays out of the pick and roll
Sam: Had a surgery after the season (sounds like the need was identified during the season) but is full go; stronger in the upper body, looking for him to step up as a ballhandler and passer, and expects him to be their go-to perimeter defender
Thijs: Working on slowing down, being able to make the right decision when defenses are focusing in on him as the go-to scorer
Johann: The Preston post @haney linked has the summary
I think this is spot on and why I think everyone is overestimating his role. Everything we heard was basically that he was a deal too good to pass up. I think he may be our lowest paid player on the team outside of Lang and Roberts. Iām viewing him as a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency ball handler until proven otherwise.
Heās gonna get the chance to compete for the back up pg role and personally think he has a decent shot at it. Was pretty hyped coming over a few years ago. As already said, the good news is he is low risk, medium reward. We have options
