First, I am not a member of the Mendenhall family.

You want to give this job to two coaches that have not proven that they can win with a second cycle of their own players at an FBS school? IMHO Healy and Lewis will be warming up their resumes with losing seasons in '22.

You could very right. I was asked a question and I gave my opinion. Also a reason Lewis and Healy were at the bottom of my list.

Sounds good to me.

This is the legacy of two decades of futility.

With all due respect @BDragon i think you are way off base calling for broncos head bro. Bronco is doing a good job. Could it be better? Yeah maybe by a couple wins, but it could also be way way way worse. I mean I have my complaints, but I guess I just have permanently low expectations for the football program. I do not think contending for playoff spots is a realistic goal. I want winning seasons, bowls, and to beat tech as often as possible. Bronco is doing most of that and at least he beat tech once. More than can be said for many years of the program. And the trajectory has been generally positive.

All I’ve asked for is top 25 rankings and the expectation be 8/9 wins a year. Not a unreasonable expectation for a school eith the funds and resources and investment they are spending on coaching. I don’t buy bowl games as a reasonable expectation because 6-6 makes a bowl game. Also being somewhat competitive with VT would be appreciated.

Once the facilities come in place, agree generally. Maybe a stray season every four years

I think that’s reasonable. We’ve definitely gotten our fair share of breaks this year and a tough schedule coming in, but we’re knocking on 8/9 wins in 3 of 4 seasons and 1 (outside chance of 2) Coastal titles, with the outlier season being COVID.

Facilities coming, we finally have playable depth in the trenches, need some more speed on the outside, but consider me optimistic. Good chatting @BDragon and go hoos

Yeah I don’t think it’s TOO unreasonable…and I think we are *getting close with Bronco- however I do agree on a few things that I would like answers to:

  1. HOW is an academic school like Wakeforest landing some of these skill guys and can we replicate that? IE: recruit the same guys that can *handle the academics and still are high quality athletes…Or is their success REALLY based on their coaching?

  2. Every other year we have either the offense or defense clicking, but never both at the same time- how can we change that?

  3. Can we capitalize on Brennan’s success as a TRUE quarterback with throwing ability, accuracy and some foot speed into more recruits with the same skill?

  4. I did not realize that our facilities were “THAT” bad and wonder if it does hold back our recruiting a bit. I hope we “could” have someone as benevolent as a John Paul Tudor Jones to step in assist in that reguard BUT I don’t want to volunteer other peoples money in that way.

  5. I hope Bronco and his staff takes the correct opportunities to IMPROVE their coaching circle- for example if there needs to be more coaching expertise on the offensive end (maybe not this year but in years past), then they can add that coach to our team.

For the people here that know these things in what regard are we behind others in facilities? Weight room, training room, practice field(s)? Maybe barbershop in the locker room…

I legit dont know any of this as far as football is concerned.

I’d say Bronco has Virginia at 70/75% of the way there, but as I’ve stated, I don’t know if he can get the final part done and a lot of that has to do with my answers to your questions.

1)I think this shows the weak spot in the current staff’s recruiting. As I’ve said before, there are talented players who can handle the academic rigors of UVa but Virginia struggles to get them. Part of that could be on the staff they may not be connecting with those players on a personal level. This also makes me wonder about the culture that Virginia has created. While at the surface level there’s nothing wrong with it, I do wonder if it clicks/connects with a wider audience of recruits.

2)That’s a timing thing with recruiting classes. The defensive woes are going on two seasons now. The offense has rolled along at a fairly consistent level and is exploding now with Armstrong coming into his own, and Virginia embracing the passing attack 100%.

  1. I think so. Bronco has a “type” for QB’s and when you look at the who’s on the roster it’s obvious he doesn’t stray far from it. For if the momentum continues see Q. 1

  2. The facilities need an upgrade I won’t argue that. But I also think it’s kind of become a buggaboo explanation for what’s wrong with the football program. While they are not top rated, they are not the worst out there. And as I’ve mentioned, just because a school has top notch facilities does not mean they will have success on the field if Questions 1 and 5 cannot be addressed.

  3. Agree 100% I’m very curious to see how Bronco handles his staff moving forward. It’s obvious there need to be changes on the defensive side of the ball, will he be willing to have those tough conversations. If the offense regresses to the mean, will he have that conversation with Anae? It will be interesting to see with that.

The stuff that actually impacts performance is the weight room and recovery rooms. Weight room is too small (biggest issue) and doesn’t have all of the state of the art tools other programs have. Also not up to date with all of the breakthroughs they’ve made over the last 15-20 years that go beyond just hot and cold tubs. Also don’t think (might be mistaken here?) we have a big enough nutrition center in house for the football team while basically everyone else does now in days.

Then there is just the flash factor. While as a fan I don’t care about the player lounge and how nice the locker rooms are that type of stuff sells with teenagers.

Crootin is hampered by our facilities. Only will be able to judge them recruiting wise when they don’t have by far the worst faculties in the acc

I’d argue our skill guys are just as good as Wake’s. At least offensively. They kicked our buts in the trenches.

Good point, Wake has hammered the Hoos in the trenches the last 2 seasons. Their Oline destroyed the Virginia rush defense and opened up lanes the size of the downtown mall.

What’s the scuttlebutt around Rice on Thu? I’ve gotten rid of my 247 subscription but am surprised not see to see any leaks on a recruitment that big. Would be absolutely huge for us

Good guys

Not sure what Norfolk is talking about. Their insider had an update today that doesn’t scream UNC

If I understand things correctly per 247 the Rice family has asked that there not be any leaks - good luck with that.
