With the current landscape of bball, taking flyers on kids without a stand alone skillset is risky af whether it be hs or portal. We have too many kids that dont have well rounded games but also lack a stand alone skillset to contribute greatly to our team. We wonât recruit over anyone or tell someone to leave so we are stuck with what we have and it looks pretty damn bleek.
I havenât read most of the above so this may be random. Weâve had more gut wrenching wins than losses in CTB era. We were due.
Loved the heart of this team. Sometimes you lose when you shouldnât. Thatâs why we love (and sometimes hate) sports.
We had way more open shots than they did. I would add free throws as additional open shots. This team consistently couldnât hit open shots and it was bound to cost us. Letâs improve, reload and get after next season.
Maybe not the place for this conversation, but last night, watching Groves miss short jumper after short jumper, made me wonder. Do todayâs outside shooters practice anything else? Do they just assume that if they can hit from 22â, then they can hit from15â and donât need to work on that part of their game? I expect that Grove has hit a higher percentage of 3-pters than shorter 2-pters. Maybe IMac also.
Groves was 46% from 2 on the season and until last night looked pretty good on his pull-ups and catch-and-shoot inside-the-arc jumpers. McKneely struggled a lot more in the midrange â at 38%.
Oddly enough I thought it was a pretty great game on our part. I thought we proved we were a better teamâ- we just choked it at the end. Itâs understandable to be pissed and frustrated, but we as fans could actually walk away from that game with a positive outlook if we chose to.
If we make the tourney I will easily forget yesterday. Very little chance we would be able to keep UNC close imo and we get an extra day of rest for the play-in if thatâs the scenario. Frustrating game but my eyes have been on the NCAAT for a while.
If that game ends up costing us a spot Iâll be sick over it but blame will rest squarely with us
I liked the matchup with UNC. The defenders we have match up well with their beasts. The wild cards are Ryan and Cadeau â and last game it was Ryan (whoâs inconsistent as hell) who torched us, scoring 1/3 of his teamâs points.
Much better than Duke or Pitt where we really donât have an answer for their offensive stars and their length bothers our offensive stars.
Iâm not an optimist so I need to practice this stuff. Do I have this correct? The optimistic take on this game is that we played barely well enough to beat an NIT caliber team if you ignore the part of the game where we choked it away and then laid down in a ball in OT?
lol Haney youâre a trip man. I think NC State was playing well above their NIT-caliber level of play their record seems to indicate (demonstrated by their previous three games highlighted by their Duke win). We donât ignore the end; we choose to look at the how that could have easily gone our way.
Thanks. Surprised it is that high. Just curious, does your 2-pt stat exclude layups and put backs, etc. Just wasnât sure if your source was sophisticated enough to distinguish between all that.
Perhaps Iâm a masochist, but I just realized OâConnell was the guy who sent the game in Cville into OT with 8 seconds left.
So in the last two games vs. UVa:
(1) He tied up the regular season game with 8 ticks left, sending it to OT.
(2) He tied up the ACCT game just before half with a diving layup with less than a second left.
(3) He tied up the ACCT at the regulation buzzer with a bank swirly to send that one to OT.
He can get in Burnsâ belly for all I care. OâConnell has replaced Wojo on my Mount Rushmore of ACC players who irk me. Sisson is still the George Washington of that Rushmore.
Yeah, this seems right. We caught BC on Thursday and State last night playing around their potential, which is better than their average. It is the problem with the conference. 14 teams that are capable of beating a solid Q1 team, but who are flawed and inconsistent. I wasnât surprised that State beat Duke or us. They have players at that level. I am more surprised that they have 14 losses. BC is another example although they really have no depth. These teams are capable if you are not clicking. Enough of our players were not last night, and the ones that were, two just failed to be clutch (which as others noted has been a problem this year). I still think we are deserving of a bid, but will cope with it better knowing we had the opportunity to seal it up right there and failed to take advantage.
