VT to win tonight
I dont hate VT basketball like I do Duke basketball. Also we play VT twice. Also Fuck Duke.
I will not be rooting for anyone tonight. However, since we play VPI twice, I suppose them winning is marginally better for us. But none of them are particularly close to any of the quadrant boundaries:
I canāt find the Q1A cutoffs. Anyone know? (Here we go: H: 1-15 | N: 1-25 | A: 1-40). So there you go, if VPI gets to 40 in the NET, we get a Q1A opportunity at Cassell. Woo-hoo, I guess.
I wonāt be rooting for Duke. Iād just prefer for Hokie sports fans to never know happiness.
I can pull for Duke against VT and UNC, thatās it.
Conundrums like this are why I want to move to the B1G. I can hate Maryland and VT without much worry over when they play against each other. Even though I hate the Terps, given how much they have sucked, it doesnāt come close to the level of disdain I have for Duke. Also, if we go to B1G, I hope we NEVER schedule VT again.
I wish I could ālikeā this post multiple times; exactly how I feel!
I hate Tech but when it comes to basketball Duke is scum and i hope they donāt win another game
Duke āvaultsā into the AP Top 10, after needing the refs to salvage a home win. Iām team Tech tonight.
I would rather Duke win. But wonāt be actively cheering.
VT has a really good win against ISU already as well as wins against Clemson and Boise State (bubble team). And close neutral loss to South Carolina (potential bubble team). No bad losses - just blowouts.
So would rather they not elevate their resume as well as potential to somewhat elevate some of those other teams we may be compared against.
Maybe if it wasnāt Tech, Iād be less rational about my Duke hatred but given two hated schools, itās an easier decision.
My love for UVA is greater than my hatred of D___.
Whatever D___ does that helps us get into the tournament, etc., Iāll all for. But no I also wonāt be cheering for either of those 2.
I honestly donāt know how rigorous the tournament selection process is with all these quad injuries and whatnot, but my general approach the rest of the way is to root: a) against any potential bubble teams; b) whichever way I think maximizes our chance of of a higher acc regular season finish, because I suspect we may need to win a couple games, or at least one decent game, in the acct to make the tourney; and c) then and only then against unc and duke.
For me, thatās go Duke boo vpi tonight.
I donāt understand the Duke ranking at all. They barely have a better resume than we do. Theyāre only a game better than us in conference and overall. They lost to Georgia Tech, Pitt and Arkansas ā worse than our losses to Notre Dame, NC State and Wake. Their quality win over Baylor is notably better than ours over Florida, but who else have they beaten? Clemson? Michigan State?
I donāt know. I havenāt been impressed.
On KenPom theyāre demonstrably better
Agreed. Our KenPom ranking is awful because the games weāve lost, weāve lost by a lot. Duke has played closer games. But in terms of actual wins and losses ā whom youāve beaten and who has beaten you ā I donāt think Duke has a very impressive resume, and I donāt think itās much better than ours.
We actually have the same Q1/Q2 record (4-4), but their wins are concentrated in Q1, and ours are in Q2.
Hokies literally have no offense outside chucking 3s and driving off the gravity of closing out on their 3pt shooters.
I donāt think I have really appreciated just how awful Techās arena is. They definitely donāt have a rocking homecourt advantage like JPJ.
And as soon as I say that they talk about how great the Hokie advantage is.
Iād say Cassell is ugly but to be fair Iāve only ever seen it by lantern light
