ACC will get 5 bids. Clemson and Wake would be my most likely 3rd and 4th. Wouldnāt go out on a limb for a specific 5th team but with 5 top 50 and 11 top 76 NET teams someone will have the wins to get there
Heels have a head start on everyoneā¦ 3 road wins already
Masters at āover the backā without getting called. And the not so subtle push the guy boxing out to get o rebound
NC State shot 9.5% from 3, 26.9% overall. UNCāS defense is good, but not THAT good. I chirped about it last night, but tend to think their shooting against us is an outlier. It doesnāt change the disappointing outcome for us, or the issues we have, but I think we lost to a team that is not particularly good, but had an abnormally good night against us. I think this loss will look worse than it was when their shooting percentages regress to the mean versus what they shot against us.
Our defense is
Soft and UNC is physical.
Teams know we donāt try to block threes or run them off the lineā¦ creates a ton of comfort for shooters knowing Tony doesnāt believe in actually affecting jump shootersā¦ just close out with hands upā¦ so 1995.
And yet we foul the 3 ball shooter like once per game. 4 point play vs. State that also changed the game.
Did you watch the game? NC State had nearly as many wide-open 3s as they had against us, but didnāt knock them down. So I am not convinced that UNCs more āphysicalā defense is the explanation.
At this point, it seems like every team that weāve lost to has had their best shooting game of the season. It forces me to wonder if itās bad luck or something about our defense.
Iād argue the play that changed the game was when they took about 2.5 seconds to put up a 35 foot prayer, when 1.4 was on the shotclock. We were leading when that happened.
I absolutely agree with you; defensive breakdowns that lead to wide-open 3s are definitely an issue. I was just noting the difference in 3 pt.% on wide-open 3s when they played us versus UNC last night. Because they were giving them looks, but NC State couldnāt knock them down.
If we want to turn the season around we must minimize ā preferably eliminate ā the defensive breakdowns that are leading to those 3s; we canāt win with that happening.
Especially a killer on the road where our team psyche is fragile and the home team is generally going to shoot better than average.
They had 1.4 seconds and the play took 1.23 seconds. That was so poorly coached out of a timeoutā¦ we didnāt defend the throw in guy and we didnāt double team on the catch ā¦ didnāt even put a hand upā¦ just brutal ā¦ completely on the coach.
@DavetheWave whats the last thing you complimented CTB on. And I know that may be a bit rich coming from me
Love how he molds kids into menā¦ love how consistent he is in life. Love his calmness.
Love how hard he gets his guys to playā¦ just an appetizerā¦ lots more.
I genuinely donāt think you believe CTB is a good coach. A good man, absolutely. But with the amount you complain about every thing he does, I think you view him in a pretty negative light.
Then again, devils advocate is sort of your MO so I donāt know if you believe a lot of the things you complain about or are just looking to make conversation lol
He believes them. He hates Tonyās coaching ā¦itās very clear.
Hereās some moreā¦ 2016 - was at both madness games in Raleighā¦loved how he let Shayok have some freedom to go get buckets. Loved how he put Brogdon on the Butler center early in the 2nd half after he was destroying us the first 22 minutesā¦ completely shut him down the rest of the game.
Loved his reaction in the 2020 game at UNC - woldetensae game winner ā¦ I was about 20 rows up from the Hoo bench. Loved how he prepared them for that last possession.
Last year game at Wake - very cool that when both Kihei and Reece got in foul trouble he went with IMac at PG and it worked well enough to keep the Hoos in the gameā¦. And an eventual win
Tons moreā¦
Like I said, he believes them.
My theory is Dave seriously thinks he would be a better coach than Tony. Iāve read multiple posts about Daveās success coaching youth soccer, his impeccable basketball officiating career, some Al Bundy high school athletics memories, and even his near perfect stat keeping work. Outcoaching a national coach of the year doesnāt really seem that hard by comparison.
