Good weather. Perceived āfunā style of play because dudes donāt have to play defense and can go iso over and over again with little consequence.
Probably cause kids like to be in Miami, despite last year theyāve recently been pretty good and had some nice tournament performances (better than ours), and they probably have other NIL sources other than that one dude. Plus their system is pretty loose and they donāt really have to play defense until the postseason, for better or worse.
Agree with zh00s and Maine. Will add:
- Larranaga seems like a good dude
- Miami was attractive for guards long before Nerd Wallet or whatever that thing was called
- Heās put a decent number of guards into the NBA, right? Bruce Brown, Wongā¦
Thanks to everyone for the responses, all good points. Forgot he just put George in the nba. When I looked it up, there were a surprisingly long list of names I recognized. It just feels like the program is on the brink with a coach who is on the downside of his career, but that appears to be recency bias on my partā¦is illustrative of how quickly perception shifts (less than 2 years since their big run) and explains much of the outside fansā perception of UVa.
Youāre right to point out that heās 74 years old. He wonāt be there for more than a few years at mostā¦ but the U will still be in Miamiā¦ also, per the internet, Able is from the Tampa area and goes to a prep school in Ft Lauderdale
a Cane?
Where was everyone on that one?
Jeez I check out for a few months so as to avoid all the overly optimistic offseason/recruiting drivel and the pun game really suffers around here. Or maybe it didnāt but I havenāt been reading anybodyās nonsense for a while. Anyway, yay football season should be fun followed by a completely fucked basketball season.
Make an putt bro
I donāt get the love for Clemson, or Pitt. Not to that extent anyway, both should be alright.
How does he ACC tournament work now with 18 teams?
Itās still a 15-team tournament.
Details in the story linked:

Iād vote for keeping it simple and not including #ās 17 & 18.
No byes, 4 games on Tuesday with the top 4 seeds playing. 4 on Wednesday, 4 on Thursday, 2 on Friday, championship on Saturday.
Not hoops, but Iām loving our new ACC brother Cal went to Auburn and beat 'em. #WarEagle
Three of the next four ACC tournaments will be in Charlotte. Itās a good time to live here.
Yeah, but Calās QB double dribbled.
All of the following are true about our ACC finish last year:
- we finished 3rd (regular season and WAB)
- we finished 8th (Kenpom and Torvik)
- we finished 4th (seeding for the NCAA tourney)
- We finished 5th (out of 5 ACC teams in the ncaa tourney)
- We finished tied for last in the final AP poll (no votes, or tied for 5th if youāre an optimist)
Just think itās good to level set how we did last year as we debate how good we will be this
year. @StLouHoo @Cuts_from_The_Corner
That was last year, from which we return exactly one single quality starter in McKneely, in addition to three rotation guys of varying levels of performance in Blake (ACC ORtg 93.0, disappointing), Rohde (78.8, inexcusable) , and Taine (133.4, incredible!, but only played 12-13 mpg). I think last year has very little to do with this year other than the fact that the coaching staff is largely the same, but even then weāre (allegedly) completely overhauling the offense.
I wasnāt comparing last year to this year substantively. Was just looking at replies to your power rankings that pointed out they expected to finish better than 7th in the ACC. My point is just that we finished anywhere from 3rd to 8th, last year, depending on the metric you use.
(I tend to think power rankings implies something closer to Kenpom, personally)
Hey Mikey I know you werenāt planning to announce today but our football team is getting the snot kicked outta them so you wanna redirect attention for us please.
