Yeah the CFP rules are top-5 ranked conference champions and then the next 7 highest ranked teams.
Confirms why I thought Cal and Stanford didnât want to join the Big XII and rather joined the even further away ACC.
This is exactly why I cant wait to see who gets screwed on that because a Buffalo has to male the cfp as the winner of the B12
I donât see any possibility that 2 G5 conference champs finish ahead of the winner of any P4 conference, especially now that theyâve eliminated divisions so you canât get a fluke 7-5 division winner winning the conference because they beat the 12-0 other division winner.
I donât know if anyone else follows as many VT twitter accounts as I do, but theyâre full on melt down mode over there. Things Iâve seen (I think) genuinely suggested this week:
- stop giving players #25
- Stop enter sandman
- Fire their university president
- all fans should stop donating to NIL
As well as just general internet-grade misery.
Anyways, Iâm having a really good time with it and just wanted to make sure everyone was aware so they could keep an eye out for it!
Can confirm. Their fanbase is in shambles. My algorithm feeds me a healthy dose of VT content, cause sometimes its just easier and a lot less painful following your rival than your own team.
Virginia Tech Twitter is an absolute gold mine. But it honestly makes sense. They were successful in a bygone era. Their expectations were warped to think that perennial 8-10 win seasons arenât good enough. They wanted more.
Fuente was supposed to take them to that next level but completely failed after a hot start. While he lost the locker room and results tanked, VT moved further and further away from relevancy. They had to nail the next hire and they got a guy in Pry that âjust gets it.â Heâs one of them and says all the right things, so the fanbase bought all the way back in. Then they played well down the stretch of last year and couldnât help but let their imaginations run wild. Saw so many âWE HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE BACKâ tweets and many even saw a potential dark horse playoff team. Theyâre desperate for national relevancy again and this was THE team to do it.
Fast forward to now and all hell is breaking loose. They put all of their eggs into the football basketball and theyâŚarenât good. Whatâs been blatantly obvious to the outside world and now becoming a reality for Tech fans is that their past success is not replicable. They arenât set up, nor will they ever be set up, to succeed the way they once did in this new landscape. They havenât fully come to terms with that yet, so you get those expectations, but with like a middling to bottom tier ACC program results.
Itâs a lethal combo and I wonder how long theyâll be able to continue selling out and banking on a fiercely loyal fanbase.
As a UVA fan and dedicated VT hater, I have to say
Donât understand the following of VT. Its 365 for me some real nwo vw wcw real blood feud for me. Donât follow Donât acknowledge
That said the amount of time its taken them to go from 0 to catastrophic is prettt humerous.
Itâd be a lot easier to enjoy their misery if either we were better or at least competitive in the rivalry. As it stands now, heckling their mediocrity feels cheap and unearned from our position.
Donât get me wrong, itâs still great to look down on them from every other perspective. But in football, I just keep my mouth shut.
While I understand that logic I donât agree with it.
The pleasure in watching them fall is what makes it a rivalry. If the Hoos were consitantly ontop and it would just be punching down.
Also part of what makes the glouting about their downfall fun is the fact that the playing field is not even.
If I only derived pleasure from UVa being good at football I might as well not watch the sport. I need to derive enjoyment from other teams (mostly tech) failing too
I grew up in southwest Virginia in a pretty hokie heavy family, so I am surrounded by it in a way I canât really avoid. My parents are tech basketball and football season ticket holders, and I hear about it every week. Them losing gets me a little reprieve.
Generally I agree Iâm not a fan of that.
But this the one exception for me. Iâm willing to punch down on VT.
Donât get me wrong Iâm not above it when it comes to VT. I will absolutely kick them while they are down.
VT is a one trick pony with a limp leg. Am hoping they get officially humbled tomorrow, though it would be a very Miami move to lay an egg at home with all the hype theyâve built up.
After @Miami, they have 5 coinflip games (@Stanford, BC, GT, @Cuse, @Duke) plus Clemson and us.
A couple of those coinflips go against them early and that team could spiral.
Assuming Clemson and Miami are losses for them, they need to find four wins from UVA and those five coinflips you mention to go bowling. Standing by my prediction theyâll be 5-6 on Thanksgiving with UVA their ticket to face-saving bowl eligibility.
We arenât beating Tech this year. We just wonât be able to stop Drones and Tuten running. Itâs a terrible matchup, not even accounting for the mental obstacles we face yearly.
Just hope we arenât what gives them bowl eligibility, though after offseason hype, 6 wins would be an unmitigated disaster
FTFY
Look, when Bronco Mendenhall with a full-strength senior Brennan Armstrong canât even beat interim Hokie coach JC Price at Scott Stadium a week after a 5-6 Fuente was fired, then there is no year we should have any confidence with respect to that game.
lol so true
Miami just lined up in the muddle huddle for an XP havent seen that since 10th grade.
