šŸˆ ACC Football: Week 5 - 2024

Wow. It was 20-0 UNC midway thru the third quarter. Wonder if Brown offers to resign. Could be a new postgame tradition.

I didn’t expect Duke to be like this under Manny year one

We need to get whoever hires the football coaches for JMU and Duke on our next search committee.

For JMU it’s Jeff Bourne and unfortunately he retired a couple weeks ago.

I’m sure he’d take a nice check as an advisor

Carla Williams was at least partly responsible for the Kirby Smart hire at Georgia. I’d say that’s turned out pretty well for her alma mater.

According to this UNC fan we broke Mack Brown last season.

I’m just hearing that he’s available.

JMU coaches have been hits and misses. Great while at JMU but mixed bag careers afterward. Mike Houston seemed amazing, hasn’t panned out as you would’ve expected. Same with Everett Withers. Cignetti so far seems like best hit but still early days. If you would’ve asked me to guess which one was going to be best, I would have said Houston. It’s weird how it works out.

Hmmmm could we poach Cignetti from Indiana? (if elliot doesnt work out of course).

Doubt it. Would be a lateral move, I imagine his next stop if he makes another one would be to a fringe blue blood/powerhouse program, probably in the SEC. He’s 63 and has won at every stop he’s been to, he’d likely wanna try and do it at the highest level possible before retiring.

If we wanted him here we would’ve needed to hire him in 2021.

Dang SMU looking good these last couple of weeks (or FSU really is that bad). Road to 6 wins ain’t gonna be easy whatsoever. All but a must win next Saturday

Wouldn’t want Cignetti even if we could. Maybe Chesney if the move is farther out than this spring. I’d like to see another season of him but I really like the guy.

+1 … Cignetti is a weirdo.

Personality wise Chesney seems like more of SEC guy but maybe that’s just all football coaches

I’m not sure there’s an SEC team that would hire him straight from JMU unless he leads them to back to back playoff runs or something… after building ins in the recruiting footprint I think he’s a guy we could have a good chance with.

But I also still hold out hope we could go after Matt Campbell if need be so my expectations are fairly off depending on who you ask :joy:

I was relatively close to the JMU program when Cignetti was there before they went FBS and know a bunch of guys who were even closer. Wouldn’t say he’s a weirdo, bit of a dork who is very rigid in terms of how he wants things done. In comparison to Mike Houston who is apparently super charismatic Cignetti wasn’t seen as much of a motivator but he’s obsessive over his X’s and O’s and game preparation. Very much a football guy.

I advocated for him as a candidate in 2021 knowing it would be a hard sell given the jump from FCS to FBS and having already been through that with London. Also heard that he was holding out for either the WVU or Pitt job but neither of them came open in time.

I would also take Chesney if Elliott doesn’t work out but at this point I’m just hoping Tony turns things around.

Oh yeah same. I think everyone is rooting for Elliott to be the guy. I definitely hope he is.

I’ve posted about it before but how Cignetti handled the JMU/bowl situation and then ultimately his departure all just really rubbed me the wrong way. I’m not going to keep up with it enough to root against him but I also wouldn’t want him leading my team after that. Especially when my team isn’t one of the upper echelon teams…

I don’t see any reason to waste energy on Cignetti. He’s at IU the only way he leaves is if he knocks it out the park, in which case UVA is a demotion or he falls on his face in which case the Hoos are getting an aged retred coach.

Neither are ideal situations.

I’m gonna focus on the guy who is here and 3-1 with a chance to go 4-1.

Agree. And if Elliott doesn’t work out, go with the charismatic recruiter who can be his own DC, has a familiarity with Cville, and has the ability to hire a fantastic OC — and that’s Golden Al.

Edit: Yes, he failed at Miami, but so did Manny Diaz, who’s also an excellent DC and recruiter.
