The JMU-Wake game tonight could be upset-alert territory. Wake is scuffling hard on offense this season. It’s a combination of Sallis’s (and Hildreth’s to a degree) shooting being way down, having less frontcourt shooting with Spillers replacing Carr, and having bad PG play (Hildreth and Ty-Laur have been turnover prone, Friedrichsen doesn’t really do anything).
Another big night for the ACC with UNC vs Florida and Clemson vs South Carolina. Victories in those plus not losing any of the gimme games will help the league’s current status.
Torvik currently has us finishing 11th in the conference, but maybe we’ll get some positive variance in conference like we often do. I think opening ACCT on Wed (5-9 seed) is an achievable but ambitious goal with this group.
Seems so far there is a line between the top 8 and the rest of the Acc.
So far only Miami, BC and Va Tech have quad 4 losses.
Wake and Louisville are the only teams with a Quad 1 win outside of the top 4 - Duke, Pitt, Clemson and Heels.
The level of aggression offensively and the instinct to score is so different than what we espouse/encourage. If I was a thoroughbred high school athlete, and I watched this game, I would be drooling. The freedom to create, the instinct to run, and the desire to get buckets is in direct contrast to what what we do.
Hard to recruit against explosive offense and aggression. Easy to recruit against plodding defensive principles in this day and age.
Haha! I don’t think you’d even have to do much recruiting against, I’d just turn on a game or two of ours and then ask them which looks more fun.
Both teams are almost playing a different sport than we play. It’s a different time. Adapt or die. Everyone is trying to score as early and as often as possible. Can I say the word…. Both teams are playing with intention and PACE.
