I’m with Tu on this one.

Yeah if we’re being completely honest Tu is probably right. Being a first rounder (especially lotto) will maybe buy RD some extra leash, but he absolutely could get lost in the shuffle as Tu alludes tu.

But there’s significant downside risk to staying too. if he stagnates then he could fall out of the first round entirely. We have a history of turning guys into head cases offensively. Next years offense could be much worse than this years, especially if Dante runs the show. And this is a historically weak draft. That’s before you even consider the amount of time he can spend on his form in the pros vs at UVA.

That’s a very fair counterpoint

Totally agree. That’s what makes me sad because I believe that both things are true.

RD is not ready for the NBA and there’s a strong chance he gets lost in the Gleague and never earns the second contract.

The opportunity ahead of RD is also too good to pass up and he has to strike while the iron is hot and make the most of it.

Essentially RD has to decide stay at UVa and have 9 months to develop and showcase an offense. Or go pro where he’ll get 2 yrs to develop a reasonable offense.

What a time to be alive. I’ve found a bad Tu-take.

Of course there’s a strong chance that RD gets drafted and doesn’t develop offensively. There’s also a strong chance that if he comes back, he doesn’t develop offensively.

So you take the life-altering money.

(And don’t read this part: what about Tony’s craptacular offensive coaching since the natty makes anyone think that he’d be a good coach to develop a guy who needs serious offensive help? Did anyone read that? I hope not. I’m not Tu, and can’t be trusted with that hot of a take.)

From my understanding our guys do pretty well for themselves with the NIL, and RD comes from a family that was willing to pay his way if there was no scholarship available to him because they believe in CTB and his process.

This is all moot because I think he goes if he’s still projecting fringe lotto but also Dre could’ve done that, instead coming back and not only leading us to a title but boosting his own draft stock to top 5. Dre did have a much higher offensive starting point though.

8 weeks ago I was totally all-in on Dunn jumping to the league. All-world defensive potential, and figured his offense would catch up and not be a big deterrent.

At this point, not only has Dunn’s offense not progressed, it appears to have regressed from earlier in the season even. Right now I’m not even sure I want him shooting unless it’s an alleyoop dunk or offensive rebound put back…and God forbid he get fouled…that’s practically a turnover.

He needs to come back and work with whoever Justin did between his 2nd & 3rd year. Dunn’s offensive shortcomings can’t be overlooked despite his defensive ability right now.

I just don’t understand why people think he will develop into a stronger offensive player next year by staying. There’s as much if not more of a risk he does not and that is one more year of data for NBA teams to scrutinize his game and his stock could drop further. Take the bag, develop in the NBA, and start the clock for the second contract earlier

Just to be clear, what you’re giving is the case tu come back? (Ok, will take my own advice tu stick tu Tu stuff, so last one from me)

It’s a little bit of a pain to find pre-draft decision mock drafts, but last season, Flip was the only guy in the first round of this March mock draft who came back (though is a case of someone improving their stock):

No one from this 2022 first round mock came back:

Of course the workouts and combine can change a lot of things as the back half of the first round and top of the second round can be fluid.

Dre’ in highschool was already worlds better offensively than Dunn. Dre’ just needed exposure, stay healthy and build on his defense which is exactly what he did.

In hindsight he shouldn’t have redshirted and actually should have been gone after his 2nd year.

Idk I didn’t mind Dre shirting. There were so many dudes competing for the same minutes that year. I’m sure it was frustrating for him but it all worked out perfectly in the end.

Also to that, wasn’t Dunn known as a scorer in high school? I thought he was supposed to be the offense with Bond being the defense focus on the wings.

He should spend the summer with Damin Altizer.

He should be our next head coach

He already did.
