⛹️‍♂️ Andrew Rohde - Official Thread

Well yes- I agree with Rohde, but Hoos9412 was saying that he *doesn’t think that he would be the primary initiator a la Ty. So that’s why I was asking about whom would do it- to which he responded with a combo of guards.

After watching a couple of his games, I really like Rohde (have to remind myself that it rhymes with “Cody” rather than “road”). Seems to have a very good handle; dribbles well to his left; is “slippery” when he drives; shoots with confidence; decent range; saw at least two floaters; has some quickness for his height. I didn’t see a lot of “creative” passing and needs some work on D. Overall, I thought he played really well for a freshman and was that team’s swiss army knife in terms of usage.

Does it rhyme with Cody or is it proper German pronunciation ROW-da… so rhyming with Coda?

As a German speaker, i have been pronouncing it rhyming with coda in my head…

The game announcers used the “rhymes with Cody” pronunciation.

Interesting… I’ll need to readjust my inner dialog… lol! Thanks.

Don’t worry, he’ll announce a pronunciation change during his 4th year

I am new, so forgive me if this is a simple point, but as amazing as it would be to sign Blue Cain it seems the commitment from Rohde – and assuming Reece comes back – wouldn’t we have sufficient depth at guard making our efforts better directed at solidifying the front court?

He’s a (very) nice-to-have at this point. Even without Reece, we’re ok with the 4 guards we have right now. But adding Cain makes getting an impact guard in ‘24 less necessary.

I think Rohde will certainly be initiating the offense. He’s a better ball handler and driver than Mckneely from what I’ve seen on tape last year.

I think adding Cain would significantly raise the odds of being a legit title contender in 2 years. He is a semi-competent ball handler, appears to be really good at attacking the basket, a good shooter, and a really good passer

Okay. Point taken. But – assuming Reece returns, for argument – we have Reece, Dante, Isaac, Andrew, Elijah, and Cain; who the heck gets the minutes? I understand the answer is probably “it depends” but there will potentially be some unhappy guards on the bench, while we are struggling to figure out how to fill our front court. I am not trying to be difficult, but I am trying to figure out how it plays out, so to speak.

In that scenario (Reece stays, we get Cain) I’d bet neither 1st year plays much. Reece & McKneely definitely play. Harris & Rohde only slightly less. Either Cain or Gertrude might get some PT, but not much, and certainly not both.

Yeah I am team Rhodes aka Ty Jerome aka Ty Davis foru sure. Big guards that can shoot and the fact he can handle ir- I see big things for him!

I’m greedy so I want Blue also, so that we can have iMac coming from one wing and Blue from another wing both getting open for shots…

Even with Rhodes the only other proven shooter on the entire roster is iMac, so I think we can use Cain still.

I don’t think Reece returns but if he did then I think we utilize the SF position and move Rhodes there and Bond to the 4 spot behind Dunn. Everyone else fills in those other 2/3 spots.

Yeah, but even if Bond plays exclusively at the 4, and Murray isn’t even in the rotation, that’s 120 minutes per game. Not a stretch at all to think Reece & IMc get 32 or so each, and Harris & Rohde 28 or so each. Maybe Harris gets a little less, giving some PT to Cain or Gertrude…but not both.

And I think Bond and/or Murray will see some time at the 3.

Okay, this makes good sense, and I think assuming Reece is gone is likely. I was just trying to figure out the minutes; of course, we don’t know whether we will land Cain as well. I just think it would be solid to add one guy to the 4/5. Definitely hope to see Cain in a Cavalier uniform.

Gertrude not getting time would be a huge mistake. Said another way… Gertrude will get time
