The Tuesday shelter in place affected schools for miles around.
I know STAB followed this one as well, but not sure if everyone else did as well. Crazy to have 2 in a week.

Yesterday’s was the result of a fight at the nearby homeless shelter at the church that escalated. Wasn’t random. They knew each other.

And the one earlier this week was probably not as much of a threat to UVA as it seemed with all the lockdown stuff. I get why UVA feels it has to be quick to announce these emergency shelter in place directives but it’s kind of a double edged sword

Heard the governor called that one in bc his daughter is a student. True story.

Yeah. I was with STAB’s track team when it was announced, and was chatting with this 6’6" German kid who’s a shot-putter. He was like “I get why they made us shelter on Tuesday, but why today? A guy with a knife probably won’t be able to catch the runners and coming after the throwers isn’t going to go well for him.”
On the one hand, as a school, I definitely would not want my students to go hunt down a fugitive with a knife. On the other hand, unless the guy was an MMA fighter he likely wasn’t a significant threat to those kids.
I certainly get being conscious of liability, but two in a week is crazy. I think there was a shooting in town Monday night, but since it didn’t happen within 100 yards of a UVA building we didn’t even hear about it until it was reported on the news a couple days later.
