Idk if I agree about the transfer portal point. I think the best teams will recruit talented HS kids and fill needs in the portal. There will be some exceptions but for the most part, a lot of the portal kids have lower ceilings. I see UConn as sort of the model.

Yeah, agreed. I think the only point I was making (which I’ve probably said too many times here) was that before the rule changes, we were getting guys in that Knecht stratosphere (Hauser, TM3), but now we have to grow them. SEC teams being able to grab a Knecht scorer type from the portal is a nice thing, but we have to homegrow those guys. But as you point, (1) that’s what the best teams are doing, and (2) that’s our best model.

I don’t think such a blanket statement is useful. First, not every team Virginia will face will have the size that Florida has. Groves’ roles will depend on matchups. Same for both Buchanan and Minor. Second, with true frosh consistency is always going to be an issue. Buchanan’s performance last night was very encouraging, but it is highly probable that he will have nights that produce some serious angst in this forum. Virginia has one starter returning from last season, and there are only two on the squad that played double digit minutes. Inexperience reigns, and this edition of the 'Hoos is really a work in progress. It’s likely to be a bit of a bumpy ride. I would have felt better if we had seen more from Minor, but I am still encouraged by what I have seen from others. And, that doesn’t mean that Minor won’t develop a role with this team. We’re two games into the new season. There’s a long way to go.
