To get our minds off of recruiting and more focused on 2023-24, figured I’d start a Blue/White discussion since only 3 weeks away.
Who is everyone most excited to see? Think this is the most ready I’ve been to see the new team since 2016-17 when we got our first look at Nichols and the GOAT class…at least 1 of those 2 turned out ok.
The two (actually 3) I’m most ready to see are Gertrude and the 2 freshmen bigs. I’m not sure we’ve had a player quite like EG, and while his explosiveness might not be quite 100% yet, this kid’s athleticism just looks next level. Also excited about BB & Robinson as I think they’re going to be a handful duo over the next few years…just want to see how raw they are against a vet like Minor.
I mean *honestly we have so many NEW pieces, plus 2nd year players that have so much potential it’s almost like they are ALSO new pieces that I’m going to name my interest in order:
1.Rohde
2.Gertrude
3.Dunn
4. Bond
5.Harris
6.Bliss ( I assume he will be playing even though redshirting- want to see how he stacks up)
7.iMAC
8.Buchanan
9.Groves
10.Murray
11.Minor
12.Beekman
13.Robinson
Yeah, it’s tough to nail down the order. Obviously the one we’re most familiar with is Reece, but I’m very interested to see how he meshes with all the new pieces.
Yeah I know pretty much what Reece brings, *however he should be back to his pre-injury form. However all of the new players that we haven’t seen yet or am interested in seeing their initial action/ 2nd years I mostly placed above him because they’re all mostly talented 4 stars.
My concern is how are we going to fit them all in the scheme this season…does Tony consult any NBA coaches for offensive ideas?
Good J-Willy show question, but I imagine all the coaches take note of what they see at multiple levels of the game. Over the years you sometimes see sets borrowed from other teams they scouted sneak into the rotation (especially in special situations like after-timeout); I remember getting really excited when they ran an action borrowed from McKillop-era Davidson the same year/year after they last played them.
On a sidenote, I actually think FIBA-rules leagues might be a better source of ideas to steal, as the rule set is a little more similar (thinking about defensive 3-second in particular). The challenge with translating schemes from the pros down to college is that the shape of the talent ecosystem is different in ways that can affect what works well.
People would easily pay $4 for an HD stream with the proceeds going to Maui Charity or something. Id pay $10 if it included both the mens and womens stream because Im super interested in the Womens bball team too now
Tony when he sees an opportunity to care about fans while contributing to charity
