Yeah, that’s the most frustrating thing to me as a ā€œcasualā€ observer. I want to say ā€œOk, if we do X and Y, then Z happensā€, but the reality is there are 50 other moving pieces which I just don’t have the bandwidth to track properly, and some of those other pieces will pick up great wins or terrible losses and thus end up mattering more at the margins than what UVA is likely to do.

If we win in Cameron, my brother and I will storm the court and just run circles round Flip without actually touching him

Yessss. Do the little kid thing where you put your hand in front of his face and just yell ā€œNOT TOUCHING YOU, NOT TOUCHING YOU.ā€ Give me that level of pettiness.

He’ll do the ā€œFlip-flopā€ for sure

I don’t know if missing a tournament is any different than another first round loss. The current narrative is that we haven’t won any NCAAT games since we won the championship 5 years ago.

I disagree—whether you make the tournament (and your seeding) takes a 30-35 game sample into account vs. just 40 minutes in March. Missing the tournament is wayyyyy worse than getting bounced first round IMO; this is part of the reason I’m curious of everyone’s takes on CTB’s legacy if we miss again

After the '02 title, he had a couple of good seasons that made the Dance and made a little noise, but then ended up in the NIT three of the next four seasons. There’s a reason I comment Tony’s on a similar track. Obviously not perfect comparisons, but both had a good long sustained run where it looked like they were ready to join Duke/UNC as a third league blue blood, then after a national title were unable to sustain it much longer.

I still consider Gary a great one, so I think Tony’s legacy will be similar if he’s unable to recapture some of the 14-19 magic.

We’re going to have to win a few in the ACC tournament. We will lose at BC and at Duke. We will beat GT but that won’t cut it.

This. Right now the narrative is can’t win in March Madness. That can quickly turn to ā€œhas been programā€ that can’t make the tournament. We do not want a string of years missing the tournament along with the out of date offense label. It would absolutely kill recruiting.

I had a dream last night that we beat BC and Groves had a big game. We’ll see… More importantly, why in the hell am I dreaming about UVA basketball…

I can’t figure out why Lunardi has Texas in the NCAAT. They have a losing record in their conference, did not beat anybody good outside of their conference, and only beat Louisville by 1 point.

Might take care of itself. 3 of last 4 games are tough. Starts tonight with Texas Tech and then they go to Baylor.

I think VT beats Syracuse tonight. Wish I could bet on that game tonight with some +100 on VT ML

I think one of my absolute least favorite things to do is watch other bubble teams when my team is on the bubble too. Maddening

My reductive view on our path to tourney comfort:

  • win at BC and home v GT.
  • win home v GT and beat Duke or UNC/Duke in the ACC-T

In the somewhat possible scenario where we only beat GT in regular season, and then win a game or two in the ACC-T w/o beating Duke or UNC, we are sweating and praying for Dayton
