Revisiting the American game - which really showed some great defensive strides independent of the opponent.
Just read the defense part. Great stuff! As always. Hopefully things stay good with ACC play starting.

Thanks! People really don’t seem to like complimenting this defense… but it really is improving.
And really any significant improvement from earlier in the year should go a long way considering the offense.

You really captured my feelings about what I was seeing with the defense and backed it up with film clips. I never would have guessed a month ago that these guys could look so in sync as they did in this game, and really, in the Md game also. I also noticed how hard Mallory, Hall and Eli were trying to block out. They really went at it. I’ve got to say Coach Odom and his staff have been doing some big-time coaching.
A few comments on Eli’s defense. I kept hearing how he could be a real stopper on defense and how that could be his role. I hadn’t see anything convincing in his little bit of playing. I could see him being disruptive but not skilled at shutting down a particular player. I watched those videos closely and was really impressed with the quick foot speed and also how comfortable he seemed meshing with the four other guys. Really, rethinking that view now. Offensively, every highlight was encouraging. Those 2 long range looked so natural, calm as if he were a 45% shooter. The ball slid through the nets with the trajectory you would expect out of a high percentage shooter. Can’t wait to see if all this carries forward tomorrow.
