Big Lineup, Dunn’s intangibles, Minor’s defense, cool offensive sets, bad shot selection, and looking at the end game.
As always, so appreciated
Lots of good stuff in this one as usual. Some reactions
- Jake “Bully Ball” Groves is a sight to see
- Post doubles when we can keep RD and Reece on the weakside seem really good? Less of a concern for the Miami game I think, but suggests that the staff is starting to think the team can use the full range of the defensive playbook within a specific game.
- RD doing the “gimme that” block on Hall in the first half was beautiful.
- IMac and Groves screening for each other is so good. More!
- We hunt offensive rebounds now? Minor is such a load down there, he burrows his way into position and won’t be moved.
- Jake “Rim Protector” Groves
- Stagger screen sighting at the end of the first half. Good things happen when IMac and Groves are both in the stagger.
Appreciate the bullets - wanted to agree, though, post doubles where we have both Reece and Dunn on the weak side seem REALLY good, to me.
Really good analysis as always. Like the 3 big line up, and I agree that it seems like a good way to go against UNC and Duke. My big concern in those games, however, would be whomever McKneely has to guard. For UNC, neither RJ Davis or Cadeau is a great matchup for him. Same with Duke, with Roach and Proctor. Curious who you would have McKneely cover in those games?
That’s going to be true if we play our old starting lineups too, though. In theory, we could put Dunn on whoever is hot and we don’t want Beekman on and place McKneely against a SF.
He played SF some last year and wasn’t a disaster defensively. Could actually add some flexibility to bother a perimeter scorer with a player like RD.
For Duke, I think you can put Groves on Mitchell since he won’t really have to close out on him, and then have Dunn on Roach, Reece on Proctor, IMac on McCain.
For UNC, I think he’s guarding Cadeau. Total non-shooter from 3 right now, but you do have to stay in front of him as he attacks the rim, as he has been a good foul drawer.
For UNC:
Davis- Reece
Ryan- Rohde
Cadeau-McKneely
Barnes- Dunn/Groves
Bacot- Minor/Buchanan
For dook:
Proctor- Mckneely
Roach- Reece
Caleb- Dunn
Flip- Minor
dook/PF- Groves
Watching the Miami game. What offense are we running a bunch in middle of the 1st half? Looks like a flow-middle triangle hybrid.
Yeah, it’s an extended version of Triangle (Outside Triangle) that they were switching into Flow late in the shot clock.
It looked pretty effective in creating space and driving lanes for beekman. Super curious if it becomes a thing for us.
They’ve done it a couple of games recently especially with Groves on the floor. I think it’s in this piece them doing it against Clemson.
