Grünloh and Thomas and the ability for the team to play very well even when a good chunk of our roster don’t have their A-games.
Still need to take time to read the full thing but I’m wondering if we will see an uptick in screens used against us when the 2nd unit comes onto the floor, especially since they play a TON of minutes.
Mallory has had a great 1st year thus far but an area of weakness in my opinion and Jacari showed it in this game as well is we get picked off and cleaned up on screens way too often and way too easily. The 1st Cronwell 3 I thought was actually pretty well contested and just better offense on good defense but it seems if you put our guards in down screens or ball screens we struggle.
I don’t think Brown fully changes that result against Louisville but it seems like if teams have a duo that work well in PnR or good pin downs for shooters, I would just tell them spam that on Chance and Jacari every chance you get. Louisville we just got hit with the shooting barrage but Brown in a PnR I think could have led to a ton of points as well.
Great write up as always - McKneely’s presser was sad. You could tell he was still very torn about leaving. @Cuts_from_The_Corner
White was just a tad slow with his recognition of the threat on that one and then took a bad angle. I think that will come with more reps and game speed, though. I agree about laying bodies on Chance. He got dislodged quite a bit, although once it drew a foul - and he does have a hard time bothering the shot on recovery - but his scramble/chaos hasn’t been bad over the span of the season. That is how I’d try to attack him too, though.
Thanks! Yeah, it was a rough watch. I have no idea what the difference in the offers was - but I know he was given advice to leave (possible he would have anyway) and I don’t think that was good advice - born more through the chaos and uncertainty of change in a tight window of time along with some expectation/disappointment that the new staff/Odom would have put a higher priority on retention.
“Had he stayed, he would have been a cherished four-year player.” Not on this board. He got hammered constantly here last year, and if he had stayed, I think people here still would have spent more time picking apart his game than cherishing him. I do recognize, though, that the comments on this board probably do not reflect the fanbase at large.
Yeah - doesn’t mean no one would have had anything critical about his game.
He would have been beloved, though. He already had most fans viewing him through rose-colored glasses. The goodwill from navigating those eras and sticking with the program after the retirement and Sanchez era - especially if the team had been even close to this good - would have been crazy.
McKneely said something along the lines of getting to know coach Odom a little bit while “on campus”. He’s dead to me. Good riddance.
(I’m mostly joking, but there is a kernel of truth to most jokes)
On campus makes me like him more… snooty Cavs say grounds… save the grounds for the coffee shop.
Turns off recruits too.
Sorry, man, it’s Grounds. Everyone who has ever stepped foot on Grounds knows it is called Grounds.
And for anyone who has ever spent significant time on Grounds to call it campus, well, that is pretty close to an excommunicable offense.
(Again, mostly tongue in cheek)
I’m with you re: the UVa shibboleths, as they used to be called in the good old days of Judges 12: 5-6.
Also think the whole “First-year/Second-year” schtick is sophomoric (SEE WHAT I DID THERE???).
“Firat year/Second year” “schtick” was passed down straight from Thomas Jefferson, so there is that.
