Des really wanted to go somewhere he could play, and by extension get a scholarship. He was psyched to go to UVA and I thought getting a year under CTB was probably worth it even as a no scholarship walk-on, but that he’d transfer afterwards.
In our brave new NIL world, I dunno what his situation look like. However, I think getting a scholarship is less of an imperative, and I he may also have finally realized making a real living playing hoops wasn’t in the cards. As such, sticking around UVA might look better, even post CTB, than it used to.

He did enter the portal each of the past two off seasons but opted to return. No idea if any other schools ended up offering him out of the portal or not.

I presume he’s getting a scholarship now that the cap went from 13 to 15
