Seems like there are just as good odds of it going to 5 years as there is of a minimum cap
On minutes or games to keep eligibility…
So if you’re a player right now - why not go ahead and play the first month and compete?
Fair enough. But having a 4 who can only shoot and not do stupid stuff is not really an asset deserving of more than 10-15 mpg, especially in a roster already filled with 3 pt shooters and excellent guards. I think you’re overestimating the number of minutes he can play; you’re not far off, but it’s probably toward the 8-10 mpg if De Ridder commits and our guards perform as reasonably expected.
Posted publicly a couple days ago. Other than the solid group of veteran leaders pictured here, take a look at Devin Tillis’ height!! Maybe his listed height is accurate after all. haha.
If anything it makes me think Malik Thomas is shorter than listed!
You guys and your height conspiracy theories…
I’m so ready to watch these guys ball. It’s going to be a great season. This team is stacked and looks like they are gellin.
My anti-height conspiracy theory soapbox:
- Every program lists their players in sneaker height + 1-inch of fudge factor. Since everyone does it, it doesn’t matter when it comes to comparing players.
- Literally impossible to analyze the impact of the supposed height fudging when we don’t have wingspan info. 6-4 dude with 6-10 wingspan plays effectively much taller than a 6-6 dude with a 6-6 wingspan.
Totally concur, especially when you factor in athleticism to that 2nd bullet, leaping ability, lateral mobility, timing on rebounds and blocks, physicality in creating/holding space… all things that allow a guy to play “bigger” than a purely listed height.
I know the terms mercenary and hired guns have gotten tossed around a lot, but listening to this and the Hall interview, this is going to be a likable and easy to root for group.
Jeff didn’t ask about every players but Tillis has promising things to say about both EG (his roommate) and Chance. Also, when talking about the roster, Jeff mentions the international players hopefully coming this month.
I like that they all got cats from the SPCA event they did.
“Everyone can shoot the pi$$ out of the ball” nice quote from Devin.
I liked it too, but being a cynic, I thought “just like Kody Stattman.”
My other thought is that Russ Turner really did his old pal a solid.
Also, I laughed when Jeff White started to recommend visiting Hampden-Sydney, then backtracked when he thought about how boring a guy from LA would find it, but then followed through because hey, it’s only an hour from Cville.
Earnest** thought for a moment: we haven’t heard from Malik Thomas in audio or interview or podcast form yet, but it seems like we have a solid core older, experienced guys, who will be some of our best players, our starters, Etc. Who at least publicly seem really bought in
** I dictated this to my iPhone and it came out as Ernest. Like yeah you absolutely brain dead dictation machine in my iPhone, I’m talking about Ernest from Ernest goes to camp. As in the hay Vern guy,
@AdventiveQuasar yeah, there were a lot of “there sure are a lot of trees in Charlottesville” vibes in the interview. Which, on one hand, I sort of understand. But on the other hand, bro, you spent four years in Irvine, like really? You’re gonna pull the big city slicker thing coming from Irvine?
I mean UC Irvine is right by Newport Beach. Not exactly an urban metropolis but still a ton to do as Devin mentioned.
I found it interesting that he entered the portal with a do not contact tag and we weren’t on his list. Goes to show that, as Yogi coined, " it ain’t over until it’s over." Agents and contacts are still very important.
Also interesting that Purdue and Gonzaga were pursuing him.
@haney we definitely have some much older players. Dallin and Devin are both 23, turning 24 during the winter. And Malik is probably 22-23 if I had to guess. Jacari is probably similar, given his JUCO experience. Ugo and Thijs are both seniors/super seniors. I think this will be a huge advantage and offset the fact that the team has a bunch of newcomers.
True true. There is that mall.
(I’m joking, but also it is a nice mall).
